These white scuffs on my black flares are actual divots. They are scratched past surface level. I'm thinking these scuffs are just from road driving, but I really dislike seeing them. They make my truck look "shabby". Any suggestions on how to get them out/what to fill the divot with? I can't afford brand new ones right now, I just want to "restore" the old ones.0306211222a.jpg 0306211222.jpg

You could try plasti dipping them.

Won't prevent from happening again, but should hide the marks.

My flares are solid black through and through.
Maybe yours were painted white and back to black again.

I didn't consider that they'd ever been white, but that makes sense.

Also, I just looked into plasti dipping and it seems too non permanent, not hardy.

Do either of you think I could bondo the scuffs and then use some really hardy platisized paint that isn't plasti dip?

    You could mask and paint
    After proper prep.

The 98-00 flares are fiberglass compared to the HDPE flares on 01-04. So they will be white under the black finish coat.

When I refinished my 98 flares they too were chunked out like yours (OP).

I used a sandable primer to fill in as best I could. If I were to redo it I would get some bondo or other simple filler and sand down. Then finish.

Great! I'll get some bondo. Im new to this kind of work, so how should I finish it after I sand the bondo smooth? Do you have preferred finishing products?
    Thanks!

My garage is a pile of dirt and all my shit is in boxes. But there’s a rattle can primer I bought for fiberglass. Used that then sprayed it with Rustoleum semi gloss black enamel.

You can choose what ever color/sheen you want.

I’m going to color match my flares on the 04

Raptor liner is always your friend. That’s what I did.

that would be a negative ghost rider. As long as you stay on smooth surfaces and tires don't stick out past. mine were done right before purchase of the truck. started peeling within a year on the back from road debri.

Probably weren’t done right. I’ve seen them done that hold up just fine. As long as you do the proper prep work... degrease, sand, and adhesion promoter before raptor liner.

That’s exactly what I did. Sanded the crap out of them with 80 grit, washed, sanded 120 grit, adhesion promoter.
Did this back in September and it still looks like it was done yesterday. Prep prep prep. Most people just don’t want to.

They look great! I’m doing mine pretty soon. Did you use cans or the bottles?

I used the raptor kit that came with 4 bottles and had to buy the spray gun separately.

I got the kit with 6. Planning on spraying 4 in the bed and 2 on the flares.
