    I wanted an MT.
I had them Find a vehicle for me then deposited 500 to secure the vehicle. Had zero luck finding one on a lot in dealer stock.

Ordered May 31, 2018 arrived August 30, 2018. The dealership labeled it as a unicorn, lol. They could not locate a Inferno TRD LB Sport Premium with Tech Package nowhere.

Ordered mine back in 2017 as well. No manual off-roads to be found that were not gray or black.

I did the same- it took me 6 months to find a 2017 SR, Access Cab Utility Model, 4x4, 4 cyl with 5MT -- something so basic (read fleet truck) I thought would be easy to find. Found one with 7k miles on it traded in at a dealership- absolutely no issues with it so far. Get what you want, but if you can live with the compromises at the price point, go with it. You'll like it in the end regardless, and I have yet to have any issues with any Toyota I've owned.

Went on the 'Build Your Own Toyota/Toyota Configurator' site and did just that.
2021 SR5 AC, 4x4, 6cyl, Red with a few extra doo-dads I wanted - printed it out and took it to my dealer who said 'OK, no problem'.
Confirmed in their allocation, arriving last week of April - first week of May.
Maybe someone who actually knows can help but I'd make a swag that larger volume dealers have a bigger allocation to work with and might have a better chance of getting you what you want via the allocation so a 'factory order' so to speak is easier for them to do.
However it works I just knew that my first new truck since 1984 / 37 years!, was going to be exactly as I wanted it....;)

Basically, I told my salesman that I was looking for a TRD OR DCSB with 6MT with a certain set of options. He just looked on his computer and saw a TRD OR DCSB with 6MT set for production -- it took a few min

After searching car sites for months I found a perfect looking manual that checked all my boxes at a Volkswagen dealer. Some guy had owned it for a year and traded in for a GTI! His loss is my gain:D

Its what one local dealer advised me to do...go to a large volume regional dealer in boston to order what i wanted. They were able to get the truck from texas in a little over 2 months.

Here's my experience: I went to the largest Toyota dealer in my area and tried to get them to locate a truck that would meet my specifications. They had what seemed like 50 salespeople in one large room, none of whom were particularly knowledgeable or helpful. They were selling cars to people that would just buy whatever was available on the lot. So I left, and went to a smaller dealer that would give me more personal attention. That worked out better.

Also recommend finding the fleet manager at the larger high volume dealers. They will usually help with factory orders.

Mine came brand new off Toyota truck with 1.6 miles - seats fully covered
Dealer drove it .9 miles to PDI and fill tank of gas - I requested they leave all interior covers in place

I took delivery with 2.5 miles

toyota has an app that shows you miles driven, hard brake, hard turn, hard acceleration that you can track. Dealer gave me access to app when truck was coming to dealer

when it got to my house I took all interior wrap off and was the first to fart on my new leather seats

Orders mine in Nov 2015 and took delivery Jan 2016. I don't think quicksand was that popular at launch, at least in my area. There were none on lots that I could find. I had never even seen it in person before. My truck was the first QS I had personally seen, when I went to pick it up. DCSB OR AT, no tech. Only options I wanted were trailer package, mud flaps, sills, floor mats and roof rack.

I'd order again in a heartbeat, but I'm sure you can getter better deals on the lot. I also plan on keeping this forever. It was my first and last new car. I actually bought a beater to protect it from road salt and short trips.

As it rightfully should be! The leather doesn't retain the scent as much as cloth fabric, which is nice!

So you are saying us leather Premium package owners, can eat more burritos? :D :D

Except AFTER paying for Premium package, I imagine, most owners have no more money for food :D
