not criticizing, but may i ask why you welded that tube twice?
was it because you were not confident that 1 pass would not be strong enough and you wanted more "surface area" to your weld?

as some one who's about to start his on WIY bumper this weekend ( hell yah! ) can you qickly explain how adding washers helps with warping? I do plan on tacking up as much as I can, then putting it on the bench to weld.

its 3/6" with some 1/4" sprinkled in for strength.

    Pic for attention.

I'm using a 110V welder and the only reliable way to get a big enough weld and actually have penetration at the root on such heavy material with such low current is to do small wire and multiple passes. The word you're looking for with regard to the 'surface area' is the length of the legs of the weld. I wanted a 1/4" leg since thats as thick as my plate is. I ended up with more than that.

The washers act as spacers for the frame plates that slider over the rear frame. They keep the plates from pinching inward and allow some room to warping. Since it looks like you’re building a front bumper this isn’t an issue because your mounting locations are on a single plane instead of opposing faces.

I had to fight this problem on my 4x4innovations. I would have liked a little more freeplay

The spacer trick is good to keep in mind for UCA tower gussets too. It gets tight in there once you weld it all in.

    thanks for the explanation!

Correct, it is a front bumper, Looks to be a pelfreybuilt knockoff ( from what I can tell )

My first gas mig welds on this new machine, weldpro mig 210lcd. 230v, 0.030", C25 10CFH, Machine set at preprogrammed 10ga(280in/min,18v: 100A), because there is no 1/8" setting preprogrammed(12ga, 10ga, 3/16")..

Only putting down 8 short fat beads aside.. I'm super happy with this machine so far. Kind of amazing what a machine that's not old and on the fritz will do.

Just finished up a cart for my boss for at work. All the walking back and forth between stages that we do, we for whatever reason don’t have a good cart to lug all our gear around so I made a LUG ALL cart. His company name is Stage 13 so I added a few little personalized touches to it
