Removing ugly faded decal

Hey everyone! New here! 2001 Tacoma. I want to remove some swoopy decals from my truck. It’s only on the drivers side. I am not sure if it’s factory but it almost looks like it should be sanded (which I am aware I cannot do). Attaching pic. Any help greatly appreciated.

 

They come off pretty easy, leave it in the sun for a while on a hot summer day, slowly peel, mother's bug and tar will get the residue off. I did same thing

 

heat gun and slowly work it off. If it cools down it will tear. Too hot and it will stretch too much to pull on. Once done, use goo gone gel to get remaining residue off, finally you may need to polish and wax if there is a plateau around where the sticker used to be.

Thanks for all the responses! It’s not really the peeling type. I’m not sure the adhesive removers are gonna do the job. However, I’ll test a small area and see what happens. The body is good but this thing is an eyesore.

 

Do the heat gun. Get it warm- do a little at a time and keep peeling it off in one sheet if possible.

 

We use these on a drill in the sign industry. That baked on chalky vinyl is the worst, this rubber wheel will not hurt the paint. Given the condition of the vinyl a heat gun wont do anything, stay away from a razor blade. Finish up with some goo gone.

TacoTime1999-thank you!! This is the answer I was hoping for. You clearly understand what I’m trying to explain! I’ll give it a shot

 

yeah, that drill tool and get some acetone to clean it up after. that is how it is done on RVs and trailers. just dont use too much pressure or you could cause damage. think eraser burn. You can get acetone from an auto body supply shop or small containers from Lowes.

 

I think that is just the adhesive, left after the decal was removed. WD40, Googone, or rubber wheel will all work. Likely no fade, especially in that color.

 

In addition to the rubber wheel style @TacoTime1999 suggested, there is also this type (by 3M). Its more for a smaller area but I'm sure they have a larger product.

+1 for 3M decal wheel! That will make quick work of it.

 

I recently removed 13 year old Clear Bra from a 4Runner I purchased. I used an electric kettle to get water hot but not quite boiling. Poured this over the decal to warm it up. I used a rag to keep the heat on it a little longer. Then I used a plastic razor blade (pretty cheap in Amazon) to get it started and peel it off. Goo Gone for any adhesive residue that was left on the paint.

All of the reading I did said the rubber eraser wheels could damage the paint if the decal had gotten flaky and hard. I've used them to get scuffs and paint transfer off and they work great for that but was nervous about decal flakes damaging paint.

I pulled the decals off my 95 back in 2004. They outline was still visible from sun fade on the rest of the truck for about ten years. Now it’s all sun faded pretty evenly. Lol
