The relay pulls almost as much as the grille lights. 4 grille lights pulls 0.28A. Depending on the relay, they can be 0.2A for the coil. I do like the self contained unit with the diodes though. I’ll post pictures of my added fuse boxes sometime and you’ll see how much I like those :) They start getting pricey though once you go to a 3A or 6A though.
I agree if you are pulling a good load. The BD S1 only pulls about 1.5A, so about the equivalent of 1 921 halogen bulb. By switching to LEDs, you have plenty of extra amperage back there. Now, if you are hooking up more than that, I’d start doing the math because it will be pretty fast that you’ll need that relay.

Any ideas on sourcing that R51, the mating connector, and terminals? Oh, I see some of what look like the 10 pin 090IIU connectors there. If that's the same as before, I have heaps of them.

For the grille lights I don't see a point to a relay. But for the rear, where there seems to be ample space, and given that Johnny will soon have hundreds of connectors and TPA's, it seems almost rude to not slap 1-2 relays on every available stud.

Ok, finally got some more diodes, so I can finish...

Project 2.2 (the rest of the project made for @5nahalf )

These are pretty simple little taps for the front turn signals on the TRD. They are just a simple pass through with a diode on the positive wire so the strobe doesn't back feed the turn circuit, and a diode on the strobe input so the turn signal doesn't back feed it. A simple design, but should make his strobe set up work with out complications. Hopefully this will help keep him safe when he is out there helping people on the side of the road

I might be able to reproduce this for myself via t-tap into the grille lights? But I think for that I'd maybe want the 4 lights split into two pairs so only the same side flashes when the turn signal is on. I think that'd be trick (at the cost of having to do two custom harnesses).

So, really are we looking at the base OEM LED conversion harness having a 4 position AMP connector instead of 3? One for DRL, one for headlights, one for turn? Then diode the snot out of it into a feed for 2 grille lights on that same side and repeat for the other side? Finally mix in the dimmer somehow.

I tested one of my turn signals with some alligator clips last night, No way some one is not going to see me.

Oh, strobes are in the headlights for additional turns, I see. I thought that was for grille light. My bad.

Yeah, so the way we set it up, his harnesses plug into my turn signals (front and rear) then plug into my strobe module. So my turn signals work as turn signals normally, but I can push the strobe button and then I get 4 way emergency lights.

But how can you live without the grille lights also strobing???

lol, I choose no grill lights :) Never been a fan of them to be honest. My main concern with these strobes was so people behind me can see me on the side of the road. I do plan to do the mirror signals soon too, but mainly because they are visible from the side of the truck.

Do you have one in the 3rd brake light? That might be a highly visible location too since it's up high.

Thought about it, but in the winter I run a topper to keep the snow out. I might look into branching off the tail light strobes into a pair of strobes up on the topper. Otherwise I might look into a stick strobe that I can put on the back of the topper and just put a plug in the bed. Then that would be controlled independent of the turn signal strobes.

EDIT: while they dont make anything for the tacoma, here is a pretty sweet 3rd brake light for fords that does strobes.

Yeah, the SR grille is just perfect for strobing strips, I am almost tempted to swap to it. But then I wake up and remember I'm not an EMT or construction worker :(

My harness turned out great btw everyone! A couple kinks we had to work out, but nothing major. Easily 10 times better than anything I could have come up with; not to mention I prolly would have blown up my headlight. Lol.

Thanks again @Puppypunter! I’m sure I’ll think of some more wiring needs and I’ll definitely give you a shout!
