I have a 16 Tacoma, black paint, I. The tailgate I have a spot about the size of a playing card that the paint literally popped off down to bare metal.

Took it to dealership and they said sorry it's 3yrs 36k on paint

Has anyone else had issues on the black color like this?

Do you think contacting toyota itself might help?

Will upload a picture when I get back home

At this point Toyota def wont fix it and it could be anything from not properly maintaining to it just being bad paint

You can try Toyota. They may say you are past the time limit or say you damaged it. Be prepared to pay a bodyshop for the repair.

Mine is black and a 2016, haven’t had it long but I have inspected t and only see swirls and a few touch up places which I believe were a stone or something. I am going to do a paint restoration with clay bar , ultimate compound, then polish and finally a acrylic or something hard which I hope will last 6-12 months. Sorry about the paint, must have been shocked (hit). Funny how you get a ding or worse when you are not the only driver. I learned my lesson a few years back, a tiny ding which I noticed but didn’t say anything, just will never let a buddy borrow again... any buddy
