Has anyone put tracks on top of their bedrails? Is it the same process as doing it for a camper shell?

I'm interested in having slider tracks with a medium height rack system on the truck bed. I don't want a shell because I actually need my truck bed open to load hardscape materials in.

I've been looking at a few options from Rhino Rack. Any good reviews on Rhino Rack's stuff?

I ran this setup for a few years up until about a month ago when I picked up a shell. It was Yakima tracks but they are essentially the same as Rhino’s.

Because it was the bed rails I didn’t take the precautions for sealing like I would’ve done with a shell. There are gaps in the sheet metal so screw placement is trial and error. You want to hit the sheet metal underneath as much as possible.

The setup served me well and the plastic bed rails are easy to replace if you want to remove it.
