Aside from opening things up and counting the teeth, maybe jack it up in 4hi so it’s totally off the ground, mark the front and rear tires with chalk at 12 o’clock and rotate the tires to see if they both turn at the same rate.

If the ratios are different it’s going to hop and chirp in 4hi driving slowly in a straight line.

I know this is an old thread but ...... Im at the end of a frame swap and the donor frame was a from a 4cly AT and the front diff and manual locking hubs came with it. I have a 6 cyl MT (4.10) with ADD and wanted to switch over to the manual. The junkyard did non have the vin or picture of the door sticker but i tested turning axles and counting. Im pretty sure it is a 4.10. I am hesitant to try 4 wheel drive until I make sure its right. I jacked up the truck totally off the ground, put in in 4L/neutral and marked the front and rear on the driver side and then turned the rear wheel. Everything was all over the place. I remembered this https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/checking-gear-ratios.325232/

I set the Elocker and then set the passenger side front tire on the ground. Then when I turned the back tire 1 full revolution the front tire rotated 2 full revolutions. From what I read this should be correct but I want to be sure. This should be correct, right?
