    Has anyone experienced this?

I'm hoping it's typical and it's nothing more than the electronic brake master cylinder trying to compensate for mods but:

When I have to brake hard, like when I'm accelerating and someone pulls out in front of me and I have to threshold brake just shy of emergency lockup I have found the brakes stay breaking at the threshold even after I release most pedal pressure it's only for a half second or so but definitely there.

I talking about almost hard enough to activate the ABS, sometimes it even feels like it's breaking harder than the input I gave when close to threshold braking force.

This is a TRD Off-Road with A-Trac and thus the electric brake booster.

Mods that are effecting the stock brake system. TRD Pro 4Runner front brakes, extended stainless steel lines, 3" lift, 34" tires on stock gears, +1000lb weight.

Only other thing that may play into things is the truck is a manual transmission amd perhaps the engine/trans/wheel speed computers are talking back and forth trying to figure out why I went from high load gas pedal down to, clutch in off the gas on the brake hard, no load and brakes so quickly.

I just want to know if this is common or if it could be signifying an issue with my electric brake, ABS, TRAC, or stability systems and any way to less or mitigate it.

Otherwise the stainless lines and pro big brakes shore up the iron slug quite smoothly, comfortably, and confidently in typical braking.

Any technical insight would be appreciated I want to learn more about the systems and how they work. If you don't know tag someone whom might!

    Thanks!

    Does your truck have VSC?
I know some guys have the VSC do strange things. I believe it had to do with the yaw sensor? Maybe the front end tucking down is causing the VSC to do some weird brake stuff?

BTW, do you work on aircrafts?
The only other person I seen use that like you did was an Aircraft Tech.
Those “twisty pliers” are cool. Lol

It does have VSC now that you mention it. I have done the VSC OBDII port reset/relearn jumper procedure and got the appropriate blinks, it may be time to do it again. I'll give that a try and look more into the VSC system and what all it can control.

I know it tends to drag one of the rear brakes under hard cornering, I figured this out because I noticed my shoes were wearing out prematurely and one side more so than the other even though both were correctly adjusted.

I do not have my A&P but several of the folks I work with do, we do not work in the aerospace industry but our industries safety standards and procedures are heavily influenced by theirs so some things cross over like the spiny pliers and wire.

I find doing this actually helps with noise and prevents binding of the pads.

If the slide pin can move a little bit under either the individual hair pin clips or even the shared long spring clip the pads don't move as smoothly.

Maybe your calipers are frozen? Common problem with 4 piston brakes....

I think that is just one of the "features" of the electronic master cylinder with VSC, HAC, DAC, ......

I wonder if the tacos have something similar to what my 12 nissan nv has. If I slam the brakes hard enough for abs to kick in, it does this sorta brake pedal assist so pedal pressure becomes extremely exaggerated. If I do that in the rain and the wheels slide, the next brake application is still in exaggerated mode.

I'm guessing the nissan also has some sort of vsc because on one particular freeway to freeway ramp, when the driver front tire hits a groove while turning right, it causes it to twist hard left and lock the brake on the right front tire. Makes for an interesting experience. But then the suspension on that thing is really screwed up. Broken shock mounts, bent sway bars, bent end links, badly worn shocks. Its a work truck and they don't want to fix it. So I avoid that ramp. If I forget, I make sure to miss the groove.

I’ll have to take your word for it.
My truck only ABS. Sometimes I wish I had the Auto-LSD.
Other than that, I am happy with my truck.

Nah they aren't dragging, I've had a stuck piston/caliper before (besides these brakes have only been on for a year.) They release as normal most of the time it's only under hard braking that the pedal genuinely feels like it keeps going down even when I'm coming off it, then it actually pops back up.

It's like a ghost is pushing the pedal at the same time as me, it's really weird sensation.

Safety wire seems like more effort than it’s worth for the slide pins.

Would you hate me if I said pull everything apart and clean it up real nice and then reassemble with grease?

I can’t really comment on the big brake conversion but I’ll bet it’s not playing nicely with your abs or VSC system.
