I just read somewhere that you can apparently drive down to the bottom of the GC and camp. I think it’s on the south rim though. It’s called diamond creek and you may need a permit but worth looking into

What about Toroweap? A small, remote campground (get a permit first). The only place you can stand on the rim and look straight down 3000' to the river (sorry, no hand rails). Since there's ~50 miles of dirt to get there, that generally keeps the tourists away. The last few miles of the trail are higher-clearance than a Suburu. Petroglyphs nearby. Lots of other cool history stuff nearby. No water, no cell, no nada.

that sounds cool. I will be driving my rv and pulling the taco so a day trip might work. I will put it on the list.

I love the north rim as well! Closer to St George, there are many overlooks you can drive/camp at (but not in an RV). Someone mentioned Toroweap, which is a great place to truck camp, but you need a reservation nowadays. If you like to hike & see petroglyphs, look up Shamans gallery for some of the best panels in the SW. It will definitely be hot in the summer.

Closer to Jacobs Lake, there are lots of dirt roads and pull outs to park an RV. Much cooler up there, and some nice mountain biking on the Rainbow rim & AZ trails. You can truck camp right on the rim at some of the rainbow rim 'points'. Nowhere as nice as point sublime, but camping is free.

I’m Planning to head out to North Rim May 15 staying on western half, Parashant region, away from the NPS campgrounds and dry camp in BLM/NFS land. AdentureTaco has a great write up here:

My question, what are road condition like in mid May? Snow, muddy, or dry?

Honestly, could be a mix of all three. Really depends year to year.

Thanks for heads up. Looks like it may be time for me to start shopping for a set of mud/snow tires.
