I just traded in a ‘17 TRD Sport for a ‘21 TRD OR. The dealer moved my TRD skid plate and TRD car back muffler to the new one.
I did enjoy manuals a while back. But they are just a pain in Los Angeles traffic. So I finally gave up and wouldn’t go back to manual. In L.A you’ll never get out of second gear....

I didn’t realize I was talking to the CEO of PelfreyBilt.

You’re points have no statistical backing. It’s a valid point that anything automatic or automated is going to have a higher possibility of failure.

If my job was driving an 18 wheeler I would absolutely want a self driving Tesla. Why would I want my job to be more difficult?

Finding a manual with the exact options you want may be difficult. I searched through 3 states in total when looking for my Tacoma, I did not come across many manual trucks. Having said that be happy with what you have currently and be patient, doing a forced trade to satisfy an impulse is not the best way to purchase a vehicle. Check the KBB value of your vehicle and do not settle for Middle of the road trade in, always ask for the max value and if the dealer says they are unable to give max value ask what specific items diminish the vehicles value. Be prepared to walk away if you are not satisfied with their offer.

Hahaha. Depends on if he overpaid or not on the first one and how much of a deal he can get on the new one and state tax credits. I doubt the same deals I achieved prior to COVID crazy market can be done now, but for instance my 2019 I paid $36k for ($42k MSRP) received $35k trade in w/6k miles, on my 2020, paid $39k ($45k MSRP), 0.9% financing, tax trade credit in my state means I paid like $400 in taxes on that deal, almost all my deals have been similar, but all prior to COVID inflation on these trucks and the used market. Not sure the same can be achieved for OP, sure trading in as much as someone like me has done is not the smartest financial decision but it can be done with a minimal loss especially with our trucks if you buy right. Good luck OP.

No, it's not better to have a manual off road. And this point should be made clear to people who are looking into an offroad vehicle for the first time. Unless you are an expert driver, a manual can cause you to get stuck in many more situations than an auto, off road. Whether it's sand, rock, steep hill climbing, an auto is better. The manual does have the advantage on descents, but since most vehicles now have descent speed control, even that is a moot point. An auto, off road is a better system. There are people that are so good at driving a manual that they can offset some of the auto's advantages, but for 90% of the population, the auto is the way to go off road.

90% of the population likely never take their Taco's off-road. In contrast, my Taco is in the dirt every 4-6 weeks and as an experienced off-roader I much prefer having a MT in just about every situation then I would an auto. Sure it's a personal preference and yes it requires a modicum of skill some obviously lack, but for me (and apparently enough others that Toyota still see's a reason to produce them) MT's are still a viable option. My Taco is one of three MT vehicles I own (not counting MC's).
To the OP, do it! I doubt you'll regret it. It makes the truck way more fun to drive :burnrubber:

I agree that mt's are viable option and in some cases an advantage, which is why Toyota still makes them. Just responding to the off road portion from the other post. The number of situations in which an auto is better than a manual far outnumber the reverse. Of course mt's are more fun. I love mt transmissions.

The new Bronco is going to have a 7 Speed MT and one of the gears is supposed to be a granny crawler gear, should be pretty neat.

That truly is the way to have an mt off road. A super high crawl ratio will keep you from stalling. I wonder how high that ratio will be.

Talk about a mountain goat. Ford actually listened to real off roaders. 35's from the factory and a crawl ratio. All they need now is a diesel, lol

Ford listens. All of their cool vehicles (raptor, mustang, now the bronco, previously the Focus RS) have or have had some pretty cool features (track mode, drift mode, Baja mode).

I’ve never owned a Ford, but they are doing some great things over there

The short wheelbase on the 2 door should help too.

Buy new? The split second you drive off the lot you are driving used. I know lots of folks trade every 2 or 3 yrs but I just don’t get it.

You getting the double cab or crew cab? I was thinking of doing the same, drove an SX model, was a double cab. I kind of like the crew cab because of the slide down rear window. Was checking one out that has the SR5 upgrade package and the trail package. Probably would remove the compartments in the bed, I like the black wheels a lot.

You may want to think about the selling to carmax. They might give you a good price, however if you trade it in to the dealer that you buy your truck you'll save on sales tax (depending where you live). That is almost 3k (again depending where you live).

    Just something to think about.

Bring the print out with you. Tell the dealer to match or you’ll take the truck to Carmax for the trade in
