I don't understand what the big problem is. It's only 1 hour. Take a nap.

A few years ago I was helping a friend do new hire welder interviews and get in the door tests to see if it was worth the time to really check things out.

Two kids show up looking almost fresh out of school I brought them both in go through a few general questions ask about welding experience to a tee they both come out with we only weld we don`t do any prep work or set up anything like that just weld .

I really at this point was not sure if I was being set up for a practical joke or if they were quite serious I excuse myself go see my friend out in the shop . He is as baffled as me. He :frusty::frusty:says Handle like you want.

I go back into the break room and say it seems we have no one here to set up the welder and materials for you to take the test as you were both quite clear you won`t or are unable to do that type of work.

If that changes please stop back in the future . When ever I see my Friend we chuckle over this.

The time Change screws up my internal clock might be different if you don`t work.

I am cranky and mean for a few weeks only to disrupt my clock again.

This late time change is the first in 45 years that had no real effect because I am not working.

Wait, I thought knowing how to set up a welder for what you're working on was Welding 101? I had to learn all this by myself for the most part. I had some help when I learned how to MIG weld, but was completely left to my own device learning how to stick weld. Then learning rod selection, methods, etc, etc...

Yes indeed you are correct in most cases .The quality of some welding instructors is questionable or the standards of the state .

Then some youngins live a very privileged life they think everything should be done for them

Many years ago I worked weekend night shift. I had sort of taught myself (pre-internet days) to stick weld with an old 120 volt crap box. One night my boss asked me if I could weld something so I went down to the Utilities shop and encountered my first MIG welder, hmm...

I knew enough to turn the gas on but had no idea on the settings so I left them alone. It worked, unfortunately now my boss thought I "could weld".

Next time I set the welder where it was last time - medium 5, I welded everything at M5 -- after a year or so I had to clear someone's bird nest of wire - open the door and find the settings chart!! :annoyed:My welding got a bit better after that.

Edit: I can do lots of things but I never claimed to be swift...
