I just had my truck serviced at the dealer and on the drive home I noticed this high pitched squeaking/whistling noise when the truck is in gear and moving. Stays pretty constant in pitch regardless of speed, seems to get louder at speed and goes away when I push in the clutch or shift into neutral regardless of speed. Barely audible in the cabin with everything closed, but quite loud outside the truck. Any thoughts before I call them up and start complaining?

Did you check if they closed the air box ? May have forgotten to close it. Other than that, can’t think of any

Thanks, but that's not it. It's almost metallic in nature, like a bearing is letting go. I just can't fathom how it would have just started after the service, truck only has 40K on it.

I had the same high pitch whistle at about 40mph and the sound would rise and lower with the throttle. Took it in and they told me it was a bad/scuffed serpentine belt. Had it replaced under warranty and the sound is gone for now. Not sure its the same thing you're experiencing, but sounded similar to mine. It would do it in neutral as well in my driveway with the hood up at about 2500 3000 RPMs. 23k on my truck and an automatic.

Thanks! Yes, I just checked and it's coming from the front of the engine. Time to get some belt dressing and see if it goes away, hoping it's not a bearing on the way out

Yep...belt dressing like the crc stuff is only temporary, but it may lead you to that noise if the belt.

Exactly, it should help me determine whether it's the belt or a bearing I figure.

...also the new belt looks to be a bit more playable and softer looking. Just an observation. Good luck.

New belt, problem solved. Only 40K out of the first one though ... that doesn't seem right.

There is a TSB for a different serpentine belt

Would have been nice if one of the three dealers I called had known that. Regardless, it’s a simple job and hopefully this Continental will last a bit longer than stock.

I only got 23K out of mine. Like I said before, the replacement looked different so maybe that original belt was an issue in 2019.
