Advice on driving a new TRD Pro cross country prior to break in

A Long drive is perfect for a break-in... I did it...
As suggested - back roads at first... then you should be good.
No racing engine and follow the manual.

 

I had 3K on it when I left. Almost 9K when I returned.

 

I put 2000 miles on mine before it even made it home. Drive conservatively and you'll be fine. Enjoy the ride!

 

Just drive East. Don't head West from Phoenix into Cali or you'll be......

Pheonix to claypool, silver city, las cruces, cloudcroft, then back down through carlsbad, is a gorgeous drive, and its the perfect route for a break-in. I've gone that way to explicitly avoid the i-10 dreariness.

 

I imagine you'd be fine. Just be sure to vary the RPMs and not let the engine remain constant for long periods of time. Maybe even stop for some food along the way a couple of times to let it cool back down. If you're going through curves and hills, that should take care of a lot of the varying of the RPMs/engine, naturally.

 

When I bought my 2016, I had about 300 miles on it before I hooked up a 3500lb uhaul trailer, put it in 4th gear and drove to Seattle. She'll go just fine.

This. Yes. It's a toyota. Don't overthink things. It's always funny how people want to rip through the gnarliest off road crap they can find and celebrate that toughness, but worry about the most mundane things....like that previous thread about going hardcore mudding, then worrying about damage after spraying things down with a damned garden hose.

My '16 I loaded up a trailer and drove 700 miles up the West Coast right after I got it. My '20 I took 4 wheeling every weekend since I got it.

Ah well.

 

No hard accelerations
Vary the vehicle speed
Do not use cruise control

Bikes are the only motor I properly break in.
