When I shift gears, sometimes 1-4 is nice and smooth, but from 4-5 there is a clunk just as the clutch engages that I can hear and feel. I can't seem to locate the direction it's coming from.

Sometimes it's there sometimes it's not. Probably because it is hard to shift exactly the same every time.

It's almost as if I let the clutch out too fast but the higher gears are typically the smoothest and dont require as much finesse of the clutch. I'm not new to standards, so it isn't a new driver error. I believe it's something wrong with my drivetrain.

    Any ideas?

Hey, I'm currently having the same problem you described with my 02 Tacoma, was it a problem with the driveshaft? Rear springs?
