I used to detail cars professionally. I would advise starting with the engine cold, and avoiding electrical systems, especially where water can pool. Minimize direct spraying of water where you can, stick to wiping down as much as possible. Use compressed air or a leaf blower to clear out most of the water, but don't get too aggressive and push it into said electrical systems. Then, start the car and let the engine bake off the rest of the water.

The only thing you can kill is electricals. Everything else should be waterproof.

I often wonder about some people’s lives and whether they worry about Everything constantly or if they are so devoid of real problems this is the kind of thing they have time to think about.

When I was a kid, we moved way out to the country. I was pissed because my buddies were back in town. During the summer, after my folks left for work I would wheel out Dad's Yamaha 650 Maxium twin and put on a big helmet and ride to town to see my buddies. I was way too young to be doing this but the cops didnt realize my helmet was way too big and I never got busted. A few times I would be getting too close to when they were due home and rode like hell to get home in time, pull out the water hose and douse cold well water over the engine to try and cool it off as quick as I could. Wipe it off and stash it back in the garage. It always started the next time I went to town. Only trouble came was at the end of the summer my Dad casually told me to change the oil on his motorcycle. I asked why he wanted me to change the oil on his bike?? He said BECAUSE YOU HAVE RIDDEN IT LIKE 2500 MILES THIS SUMMER!!!. That was all he ever said about it and I changed the oil. Moral of this story was my Dad was super cool and I didnt kill the bike by hitting it with cold water when smoking hot.
