Any 2016 owner 5 year reviews to share?

It is a thing

 

Rust starting under drivers side door sill, rear brake light leak, shifting pattern (corrected with ovrune), howling from underneath, and now from door sills. 32,000 miles. Drive my wife's explore with the family, 3 kids will do that

 

A few years ago I had accumulated higher mileage than many but the last 12 months have seen only one big trip, so I’m glad to see others with even higher mileage, and good experiences that match mine. 2106 TRD OR DCSB bought in early ‘16. 79K miles. Early on, I had a few ECU TSB’s, trip meter reset fix, and the CPS recall. Other than that, no issues. One replaced windshield, one battery, new KO2’s at around 45K (the Wranglers still had plenty of tread). I’m good about oil and filter changes (myself), but a bit lazy about other maintenance and it’s probably due for all fluids and at least a check of brake pads, maybe new plugs; I haven’t rotated the KO2’s since they were mounted up and tire wear looks good.

The shocks have definitely deteriorated and I feel like I’m hitting the rear bumps more often. I don’t commute, but it gets some ‘round town use, dump and Home Depot runs, plus one cross-country and many trips with lots of dirt, but not anything hardcore, throughout California and Oregon: Sierras, Death Valley, Alvord Desert, Owyhee etc plus some mild stuff in Moab and around St George. Still runs like new. Added OEM roof rack and BAMF sliders and those plus LT265/75 KO2’s seem to have dropped mileage from typically just over 20, to consistently below 20 mpg.

The only issues in five years were warranty work for a weeping diff and had one TSB to correct the delay when shifting from R to D. Truck now has just under 60k miles, is my daily driver and has never been inside my garage. It's been the best of the five toyota trucks I've owned.

 

should be fine at altitude. chances are youll be in a line of cars going slower than the speed limit anyway, if you can even make it to the top. looks pretty white up there this morning

 

2016 DCSB 78k. bought in july of 16. blower motor recall. delay from r/d TSB. 3 sets of tires. original battery/brakes.
been to maine/Colorado/montana/ YOOPERs/ . bone stock sept 265/75/16 falken wild peaks and topper..

 

I've had my 2017 for a little under 4 years. 30k on the odometer. Had the squeaky leaf spring tsb early on. Replaced tires and battery this winter --neither had failed, but it was time for them to go. No other issues. It's a great little truck.

Had mine since July 2015 and driven about 82k miles and counting. Here are some of the problems I've had over the years.
- Recall where the bolts to the rear diff was somewhat loose.
- Leaking third brake light.
- The driver's seat is showing some major signs of wear and tear due to me sliding in and out of the truck multiple times a day
- Annoying rattle sound on the driver's door, door control panel was loose so I simply snapped the panel back in place and it worked.
- If I drive over 80 mph, the truck's windows will catch wind an make a whistling noise. Heard Toyota addressed this problem with newer models by using a thicker glass window.

Other than that, no major complaints or issues and the truck has been mechanically sound and is holding up well. Hoping the Tacoma will last at least 15 years or more.

 

I'm original owner purchased in 2016 no issues or regrets. Just hit 36,000 miles. I live 4 miles from work but have driven from Miami to Tennessee and Georgia a few times love every second of driving this truck.

 

2016er here with 75,000 miles. No problems other than a couple of recalls. Awesome vehicle

I fixed that by using 1/4” aquarium tubing inserted into the first 12” of the weatherstripping at the front of the window. It keeps the weatherstripping from collapsing under the air pressure.

No more zombie farts.

2016 with 81K. Daily driver.
I had and still have all the minor issues since new (kazoo noises, radio resets, gear hunting on hills, and driveline vibes even though stock)

The truck has developed some new rattles.
That being said, it has been very reliable and I am satisfied.

Two positives now: idgaf if I scratch it offroading anymore, and no more payments

 

Looks like you've got the 2.7. How heavy was the trailer and how was that experience? And how does it do in the mountains? I've also got the 2.7 DCSB. Just got it in December and haven't had an opportunity to haul anything or take it to the mountains. It'll jump up to 4K RPM or higher when the cruise control is trying to keep it up to speed on a pretty shallow incline.

 

MY2016, Baja CA built TRD Offroad DCSB - 62k miles, 0 issues with ECT on

Still on original brakes and battery reads strong.

 

Just rolled past 110k, no real issues other than leaky 3rd brake light.

 

I just hit 5 years of ownership January 25th. (Ordered it in October 2015... do that math!) Paid it off this past October. I do still really love my truck even with all its little things that bother me. Just over 50k on it, was averaging over 12k a year but the pandemic kind of ground traveling to a halt.

Let's start from the beginning, I had ordered it with the roof rack, they cross threaded one of the bolts in port and so less than a week after getting the truck there's water dripping inside. All the numerous TSB issues with the shifting and trans. Still downshifts kind of hard. My JBL head unit resets way more often since the last update they pushed out. The dash makes vibrating plastic sounds by the front right corner in the winter time. The stock battery crapped out within 2 years, they replaced it for free and said that was common.

My three biggest complaints, the bad smelling air after turning off the ac (yes I do all the things to keep it from getting bad, I've cleaned it, filter, etc. etc. etc., I have it kind of down to a science now to keep it decent, I like fresh air), the very small backseat (I have two little kids in car seats now), and the dang shaking brakes! Yes, I think whoever did my brake job at the factory was definitely working late on a Friday. I had to have my rear pads recut twice due to shaking, then I had to have my front rotors turned a couple times for horrible vibrations. Finally (and because this is the part they wouldn't do under warranty) I paid for new brake pads entirely. This definitely fixed the problem like 85%. I still get a little vibrations sometimes after the system has heated up, maybe after a hard stop, or some highway stops, but it goes away on the next trip.

Most of my mods have been affordable and functional or for fun. The best thing I did was get K02s and go up one size. I have the hidden lightbar under the front grill. I have installed hidden strobe lights for work. I have a hidden CB in the center console. Some LED Lights, metal door frame/sill plates/covers (what are these called?), bed mat, rollup bed cover, custom built equipment holders in the bed. I found some guy on here who designed and 3D prints the awesome stock looking button panel that replaces the left side cubby hole. I love having that thing with my light bar switch, strobes, and I put a garage door opener one that is just wired to my opener hidden in the dash. Lately unfortunately most of the offroading I do is on jobsites, but that is still very demanding sometimes, so I do my best to find spots that require 4wd.

Overall very happy with the truck and how it has held up to my abuse so far. Hoping the next 50k goes as smoothly.
