Hypothetical engine replacement questions

    There is a 99% likelihood that this won't happen, but I'm chewing on some questions that come up as I consider the (extremely remote) possibility of replacing the 2.7 in my 2021 DCSB (with only 2,500 miles) with a stock V6.

    1) Would I have to replace other things too? (Does the V6 use a different tranny, or are the mounts in different places requiring me to modify the engine bay, or does any non-engine stuff have to move somewhere else, etc?)
    2) If I purchased an equally used engine and did the work myself would I save money vs just trading in for another V6 Tacoma with similar mileage?
    3) What other factors would come into play that I'm not thinking of?

    The only answer you're really going to get here is that it's not worth the trouble/money and to trade it in

    You are much better off trading in your vehicle for a similarly mileage V6 version of your current i4 if you are trying to save money.

    It will come out to about 3-5K, save you a ton of time, headaches and probably money.

    Much better idea to get the V6 brand new since it only costs like $2500 more than the 4cyl equivalent.

    Dude, you will be way better off selling your truck and buying what you want. You will spend more on a swap.

    The only reason to swap is if you want what you can't already get.

    I spoke with a dealership about this recently. A manager at the dealership told me to expect to have to spend $5K to trade to the V6 equivalent. I started chewing on the question because I wondered if I could save any $ by just dropping in a new engine. But again, I'm firmly in hypothetical-land with this question.

    Yeah it's a rabbit hole. It may be a little cheaper at first and end up twice as much.

    I hadn't heard of the LS7 until you said this. I can't imagine what a Taco with a V8 would do.

    Back in the day I had a Fiero (I miss that car). There was a kit available that would allow you to drop a V8 350 engine in it. It would basically have been an engine with wheels.
