25 years in law enforcement and never once took a call for a stolen car with manual tranny. That is the best deterrent because political correctness aside the most common car thief is a shit bag teen. The tennis ball break in is an urban legend but i have never seen evidence it is real. Our Tacomas are particularly at risk because trucks and especially 4x4s are sought after in south america. Within 3 hours of a truck being stolen it's on a boat to Nicaragua. The idea is not theft prevention but target hardening. Make your truck less inviting than your neighbors. 100% of thieves are sniveling cowards and will go for the softer target.

Yup. I feel I've seen a lot of posts brought up recently about tacos getting stolen in general. I mean, you could literally say that about any make/model. And no one's gonna beat a flatbed. Unless you feel like chaining down your truck to a building every time you park, and even then... chains can be cut... locks can be broken/picked etc... if someone really wants anything, and is determined enough, they will get it.

Haha, well... I always request a flatbed when I make AAA move my cars around. My old landlord for a shop I used to rent (he was probably pushing 80 at the time) laughed so hard when I had AAA come pickup my project car and bring it to another shop I was working at for me. He didn't realize you could abuse the gold membership like that. 95% of my tows are... just moving project cars around haha.

Were you gold? Because it's the best loophole ever, and it's still there. You don't have to have a reason to tow anything, and it doesn't have to go to a shop either. I literally burn through all my tows every year. Best $250 a year I ever spend, and they go 100 miles.

Yeah, just get gold. Basically in my mind, I get 4 tows a year, for $250, or whatever it is, I honestly don't remember it's all auto-pay for me. And I'm sure as shit gonna use them all. I've never been hassled for anything. The only thing I hate is having to actually go through AAA, instead of just calling the company I want that I know takes AAA. For a while, I was down to requesting specific drivers... Also, it's just good manners if you're gonna abuse the system and make some guy drive your projects all over the place, I always give them $20+ or more and say lunch and smokes are on me. I dunno, the last guy I liked smoked reds, so I would get a pack for him before he showed up, and gave him some lunch/snack money for the drive.

I agree with M/Ts being less likely to get driven away but they are easier to roll onto a flat bed.

If you brought a flatbed, you are probably taking a vehicle no matter what.
