I have owned the Tacoma for 11 years now. When purchased it had 68k, now at 212000

All maintenance has been personally performed and recorded at required intervals by the book.

It hasn’t been babied; it’s been my main hunting and fishing truck which I am very into. Has towed trailers ranging from 2-4000lbs for tens of thousands of miles. Been put through some nasty off-road conditions.

To date here’s my amazing list of parts that have failed. Everything else including headlights/tail lights/rear brakes etc are still going at 212000 miles:

Stock battery was replaced on 7th year because I didn’t want to get stranded but still functional
Both driver and passenger front wheel bearings @ 140-180k
    Replaced u joint @ 185000
    Front brake pads @ 205000
    Serpentine belt @ 185000

Every other part on the truck is original.

Surely the best truck I will ever own!

Were the brakes the OE when you bought it?
My OE front brakes went almost 70k. I bought my truck used.
The ones I have on now at almost 70k and are maybe 1/2 worn.

I too tow quite often. I don’t think I’ll make it as far as you.
I don’t have trailer brakes and I’m an Auto.

My Front bearings went at 100k
    I changed my belt @115k
Coolant @12 years (Don’t do this. Do it SOONER )
And Trans fluid at @100k (Definitely don’t do this. Do it MUCH sooner.)

You ever hear the saying “Do as I say, not as I do”?
    That’s me. I don’t do what I should....... and I know better........:goingcrazy:
Yet, I’ll jump in and help other people work on their stuff all the time.

Yeah, there something wrong with me. I know.

Did you ever replace diff and transfer case fluids ? Might smooth things up and super easy and cheap to do.

My front brakes made it to about 107,000 and they still had some meat on them. I'm still on stock wheel bearings at almost 109,000 miles and the stock clutch feels fine as well. No major problems yet.
I had my last Toyota truck (98 T-100) for 17 years and my nephew is still driving it at about 310,000 miles. I plan on keeping this one just as long. I'll have mine for six year this coming Summer.
    Yep, I love my truck.

Yeah the front brakes were OE from 2006, trust me I’m amazed that they lasted over 200k. I replaced them with OE Toyota brake pads. Actually I installed the new ones just because I noticed the originals were just about done, no symptoms.

But I’m equally amazed that the headlights and taillight bulbs are the originals as well!

I highly doubt I ever get another rig that has been so trouble free, even with Toyota

On my old T-100, I changed my first brake light bulb after having it 15 years. I think by that time it had close to 250,000 miles on it. Chevy's day time running lights last about a year. Look at the burned out lights as you drive down the road.

My 09 has a similar track record, albeit i'm only at 130K.

Pair of wheel bearings around 100K
Ujoints at 110K (I think I forgot to grease them for a couple years, otherwise I bet they'd be original)
    Front brakes at 80K
battery at 10 years old, just in case
Serp belt at 125, just in case
The exhaust did develop a hole at about year 12. Replaced with OEM.

The headlight bulbs lasting that long are super surprising. The factory ones lasted me maybe 3-4 years, and I probably put in one set a year since. I can't be the only one.

    Cheers to quality built trucks!

I just had a failure that left me twiddling around in a parking lot for about 20 minutes until I got it to work

After 213k miles, my original ignition key has worn out and is unable to turn the ignition on

I got it to work one last time and started using the spare key, problem solved

I think a key should last at LEAST 300k! I mean come on Toyota!!

Definitely should have bought a dodge

Worn out key on the left, new spare on the right.

I left corporate an email demanding at least $10 for a new key

    2011 - 141,000. Owned since new.

    3 sets of leaf springs
    Blower motor, resistor, wiring
3 door lock actuators (repair - f&$! Toyota’s price for new ones)
    Steering wheel spiral cable
    Lower control arm
    Steering rack
    2 u-joints

To do: I have a leaking valve cover gasket.

All with impeccable maintenance performed by me. The point is that Toyota isn’t this lone bastion of reliability in a sea of garbage automakers. Their cars aren’t anymore reliable than some others.

I had to buy a new headlight bulb last weekend for my 2012. Only ~87k mi on the clock. Im heartbroken, but think the only path forward is to part out the truck and finance a $70k Jeep over 10 years :D

I bought my 09 about 5 years ago, she has 143k on her now. About 80% pavement miles the rest farm or gravel roads to hunt or fish.
I replaced both FWB st 115k
    Serp belt at 105k
    Battery last year
AT drained and filled at 110k
Diff drained and filled at 110k
Radiator flush and fill at 100k
I have an appointment at my local dealer this Friday to get the trans and Radiator taken care of. I'm 62 with a sketchy back so old me would have done it but not anymore
