I'm a wildlife biologist with a strong background in raptors (eagles, owls, etc).

They're happier than I am. I did it for them. I'll be the one potty training it. Going out at 2, 4, 6am etc. Picking up its shit. Training it. Blah blah.

I got twins, 5 year old boy and girl. This is right now. Worth it. Kids are ecstatic.

Done it for 3 dogs before this. Strict schedule. Go outside on that schedule and not back in till it went, even if 4 am and raining. Slowly expand schedule. Praise for going outside.

    Works really well, just tedious.

But, we've had, trained,, and raised Rottweilers to date. A lab will be easier than them.

We took all our training militant style. Don't raise your voice or repeat yourself. It doesn't listen walk to it. Don't use their name in negative manner, say no or aaa aaa or whatever instead. Play and tire it out and then train. Crate training. When you can't watch it to instantly correct behavior, crate. No hitting, but neck corrections are okay. Finger in neck for example, prong collar for bigger dogs, etc. Dominant wolf would bite the neck of subdominants to check them. Its an innate thing for them, a correction that doesn't mean harm (loose skin in neck could be bit by wolf versus on the leg for example). Loved member of the bottom of the pack. I am the leader. Follow me out of love and respect, not fear. Lots of play, and allowing it dog free time in an environment it can't get into trouble (e.g. chew things it shouldnt). I could go on and on. Read countless books on behavior, training, etc. My last dog was a German rotty from a really good bloodline. Took my training very serious and she turned out to be the best dog ever. This lab should be easy if we do what we did for our bigger working dogs.

My buddy has a black lab mixed with Rottweiler. Huge beast, but really good dog.

This is why I like cats. Ours is 12 and hasn’t given up on training me yet.
