    Good morning everyone!

It rained all day here yesterday - no real downpours, just a nice steady rain. Perfect to help melt the remaining snow slowly and not flood our stream. We needed all that snow and rain to replenish the aquifer. Now, I'm ready for some warmer weather and sunshine - looks like tomorrow will be the start of rising temps for us here in northeast PA.

I think I will pull the field mower out of the garage tomorrow and start knocking down some brush before everything starts growing. It will be nice to get a jump start on things. Just think, in another month and a half we'll be opening the pool!!! :D

We went out to the college's student-run restaurant last night. I never cease to be amazed at the quality of the food they prepare. Amazing.

Stay safe and warm!! Sunny days are coming @cheech1 !!!

    Good morning porch folks!
Here in this part of GA everything is covered in a fine yellow dust right now (pollen).
My white truck actually looks yellow and my wife's black Buick is crazy looking even though I washed it a just few days ago.
Trees are coming back to life and the flowers are startin' to bloom!

Agreed Mark: We just had a bathroom faucet and drain replace, I supplied the faucet. I used a plumber that I knew and trusted. I called expecting a call back but it never happened. I called again and went to an answering service and was informed he was on vacation. I do not know why he did not change his voice mail greeting or why I did not go to the answering service on the first call. Sometimes technology does some unexpected things. The service took the message and he did get back to me on the day the service said he would. Cost was a little higher than I expected but I am willing to pay for quality work.

I would probably guess that the number of persons buying a new Tacoma do not have many CD's at all so why put a higher maintenance feature in the Head Unit. Most younger people now have everything on their phone so a phone interface is more practical for sales. You can bet that in 5 years or so a Navigation feature of the Head Unit will disappear too. My son uses his iPhone for that feature when driving and if his mom is with him she uses Waze on the iPad. I had a higher end car in 66 that had an FM radio. Back then most cars only had AM. I am not privy to sales data for new vehicles but you put money on the manufactures know the demographics for the sales of a specific model and equip it with the features the demographic wants.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Dave: Prayers for a speedy and full recovery for your mom.

Errands went well yesterday. Today is just taking some pictures of a desk and placing it on the Bowie Online Yard sale. This next week is all about transforming my old home office bedroom into a music practice room. I also have an Oak Butler and 2 additional pieces of modular furniture to sell next week. Going to be a fun week. Oh and today is also laundry day, YEAH!

My 2019 Highlander had Toyota Navigation. Toyota contracts with a 3rd party for Maps. A brand new vehicle, new maps installed but was 2.5 years out of date. The road the dealership is on wasn't shown. Lots of new roads in Austin, TX but the map was out of date. The solution was to use Google or Waze. Oh, the maps can be purchased for $300 (mini sd card insert).

My 2021 Tacoma uses Scout GPS for maps. All I can figure out is their business model was to give it to Toyota for free but direct you to Gas Stations, Restaurants, Hotels that subscribe. It sucks. Took a while to get my Android synched up. Cable connection only. Phone with Android Autoplay app installed. Headunit (car radio) to recognize the phone. Not intuitive. Waze, Google, Podcast available for a road trip (darknet dairies)

In 2012 I went to buy my daughter a Honda Civic. I wanted a base model, and her only request was an auxiliary port so she could listen to music on her phone. Wasn't available on base, but the next model up. Frustrating. Salesmen was a jerk, so we left and bought a Nissan Altima as it had an aux connector. Just seemed insane to realize that a simple 50c item determined a vehicle sale.

We had a wonderful sunny day, low humidity but windy. Got in a nice walk with the dog. Just about ready to sit down for dinner.. delivery. RSI Smart cap arrived. It was stealth as I was waiting for notification on the shipment (ordered a week ago), and it's here. 53' trailer, so that wasn't coming down my driveway. Everything shrink wrapped on an oversized pallet. 200' foot of caliche driveway, but with the two of us rolled it down that driveway into the shop. Whew. I was pushing like crazy, and it was a good workout. I'm not sure who was more impressed, the driver or me! Knees not too happy with me this morning.

Meanwhile, my Caliraised LED sliders arrived in the Austin warehouse a week ago; I still haven't heard a peep from those guys about when they will deliver.

    Good morning all,

Snow in the forecast starting Sunday through next Wednesday for us up in the high country - spring is on hold for now. The days currently are in the high 30's to low 40's but the nights are still in the teens.

Got a few errands to do later today, dogs need more exercise as do I...

Have a great day and be safe

The navigation and phone connection was a big selling point for me on my 2015 TRD Sport. Of course, as it turned out, both were nothing but frustration, the only good I ever got was the car speaker for the phone. Being half deaf, I take conference calls in the truck rather than on my phone. My phone provides all the navigational aid I need now, having all but replaced the large Rand McNalley that had always been my driving companion in years past. Even my wife finally learned how to use that wonderful tool, although the concept of North & South is still a puzzlement for her. For me, I’m still amazed at how Google can voice command me to turn left in 50 feet, let alone how Big Brother can watch me scratch my ass on a foggy night.

I guess I'm old school. Still have an older Garmin GPS, just updated it yesterday. I like the LARGE screen, used it for years at work, flawlessly finding 20+ obscure addresses every day. Plus I don't have the vision I used to, need a little forward recon.
BTW, My neighbor truck driver just got a ticket for using his phone for navigation while driving. He said he almost lost his job over it. I've seen drivers fiddling with a phone while driving, not good.
My son brags he can text while driving.. both hands on the wheel, phone. Texts with his thumbs. :annoyed:

    Afternoon all:
Working on taking part of a tree down that could hit the house, and I have a plan! Go up on the stepladder with the chainsaw and cut one big limb off, then take a break and be glad I didn't kill myself, then repeat, so far so good!

Guess I am older school. I navigate with a Wally World Road Atlas. I recall a friend from out of state who used a state of the art navigation program that directed him to our town via the most primitive road available.

    Boats,
Make sure your ladder is not leaning on the limb you cut off...don't ask me how I know this!
    Otherwise, good plan.
    Carry on.

A little something every chance we get.
    Evening Porch People! Shiner time.
Well, I got the top organized, and the bottom emptied. I'll work on consolidating the living cuttings next week, and then remove the shelves for cleaning.
The bottom was the important part - the big plants. Job ONE for the greenhouse was to keep them alive and happy over the winter. Now, granted that we had a "slightly" abnormal winter, the bad out number the good, so it's a failure for it's first go around. Going to really have to change stuff up next winter, insulation and water wise. Probably need to have it less crowded too....

The "bad" #12 pots total - about 50% look like they might start sprouting out, the others - doubt it. I'll know in a couple weeks....

The "good" #7 total (one's hiding behind the chair)....

The "OK" was most everything on the top shelf, some of which is already out and around the yard, and the 4 hanging pots. It's normal that I lose a good number of the Hibiscus "stick" transplants - they are just cuttings stuck in root stimulator and then in the pot.

Happy Friday and welcome to Spring!

I guess I’m even older school. I was a Naval Flight Officer (NFO or no future on the outside) trained in RADAR Nav, Dead reckoning, Celestial (sextant: sun line, 3 star fix), Inertial Nav. When GPS became available I thought I found nirvana. My impression of OEM in car Nav is they intentionally dumb it down and make upgrades prohibitively expensive. Garmin GPS units offer great value, easy upgrades and cheap. The only downside is they are not integrated seamless into the car

    Evening all:

    Also !!!

The ladder was on the limb where I was cutting 4-8" dia. and maybe 12-16' long almost straight up growth off of, thought the darn limb was going to snap off as I was dropping them. They were on a Y that was facing the house, just a matter of time before the weight became too much and that part of the trunk split off and hit the house. Everything I wanted gone is now on the ground, now I have a mess to clean up! :(

When I need to use a NAV system in my 2009 Tacoma I use a Garmin. I have to of them with lifetime maps and one has traffic. Works for me.

Good morning, all!! COld here this morning - 18 F. I forgot we were supposed to have another chilly one - yesterday was windy and biting cold all day. Today we start to warm up and hit the 60s next week.

I need to get the old field mower out of the barn and fire it up to get an early start - also need to finish cleaning out the stable so I can keep the trailer there. Retired life projects.

I use Google Maps through CarPlay in the Tacoma. Lynn's Subaru Nav system is actually pretty good. I've been using Garmin GPS systems in my '96 Z3 for years and love the ease of the system. The only issue is that my internet is so slow it takes me about 8 hours to update the maps. Still, it's a great alternative, especially in a car never configured for a NAV system.

I actually run two Garmin systems - a normal GPS and also a HUD system that ties to my phone. The HUD gives me a constant speed readout that's easy for me to see without looking over at the GPS or down at the dash so I use it more for that, although it will also indicate turns.
