I gave up trying to use the factory microphone. I had already fed the Alpine microphone up through the dash, along the side panel next to the front window and along the headliner to the current mirror mount. I used an ikea particle board screw (small one) to hold the microphone since I lost the original mount. I simply slid off the plastic mirror attachment that hold the wires, drilled a hole and screwed the screw into the plastic. I added a small half-hole for the wire, snapped the cover back on and pressed the microphone onto the screw. It works fine and looks a lot better than when it was simply hanging from the visor.

nice, seems that's what ill be forced to do. I really didn't want the job of having to fish wires from the HU to the original mic location and then solder them to oem mic.

right now I'm looking for a decent mic as the one that came with my headunit is garbage and it apparently sounds like I'm underwater when I make calls

I'm researching similar issues with my 2013 Corolla. I'm trying to put in a new head unit and I had this 28 pin mystery connector no one ever mentioned to me before I started.

Anyway I found this picture of the connector that lays it all out. I think it's the same one you have.

Now I know where to find my SWC controls. Mic info is on there, too.
