~Used Quads~

Has anyone here ever purchased a used quad from someone? I was thinking about purchasing a 2003 Yamaha Raptor to hit up some trails here on base.

Also, maybe someone here is selling an ATV... Let me know...

My last 3 ATVs have all been used, I cant see buying a new ATV to beat up in the woods we ride in around here. Never really had any major problems out of them maybe just carrier bearings, new cables and grips. I tend to ride harder than average cause my family has been in to motorcycles street and off-road forever and always got my older brothers dirt bikes when he out grew them. Just make sure you ride them first check for leaks and frame for cracks, I've broke the frames on my last 2 sport quads. I weigh 160lbs.

 

Sounds good... My brother recommended I get a 4 stroke as they are more problem free and I should be good. I'm thinking around the 400 cc range...

 

4 strokes are better for the woods and on plugs, 2 strokes are to pippy for the woods IMO. If your riding sand and dunes in Florida than either should be fine.

 

I have had alot of used ATV's the worst was a kawasaki the best being two of my yamaha blasters.

I actually prefer 2-strokes for woods, but then again, im on 2 wheels

 

Yammy or Honda can't go wrong, just test ride it for a good 30 minutes . . . biggest issue is if they let water into engine, other than that pretty tough stuff . .

 

Ya Ive had about 4 used 4wheelers and the biggest things to look for is 1 if you going to buy a racing bike I would buy one that is as close to stock as you can get usally this means it hasn't had the shit rode out of it
2 check the frame and body over really good and check the oil and coolant and stuff

3 make sure if your buying a used bike to leave some money in your budget for brakes or bearings or something like that sometimes they will need them sometimes not

but I cant really justify buying a new bike unless u just got the money to burn because chances are you will flip or something will break lol

and also ride it and make sure theres no funny noise or anything like that and you should be good 2 go

 

i would recommend used. you can find a bike that has all the upgrades you want at a hell of alot cheaper than buying new and purchasing them on your own. if your into forest riding i would recommend a 4x4. if into desert or sand riding i would recommend a sport quad. based on your level of experiance i wouldnot recommend anything over 400cc if you do not have any experiance riding if you want to go balls out and have the experiance. i would recomment one of the 450's on the market. they are faster than the anchient two strokes that are out there and they have alot smoother ride because of the advancement of suspension. and like everyone said you need to check all the wear and tear parts to make sure your not getting a lemon. if your unsure take a buddy that has purchased a bike and get a second opinion.
