Car got hit, is it totaled?

    $17,000
    Insurance does not want to total this car out it seems.

    ^ Ouch at the 17K repair tag, that means it's quite extensive. You can still push to have them total it out but it's going to be a battle. Their insurance surely doesn't want to pay for it. If that's the case, you nee to bring it to a auto repair place that specializes in BMW's. You should be able to choose your repair facility. Do NOT, let them choose it for you.

    I don't know how it works in every state, but in my experience it's a mistake to let the insurance company take possession of the car before you reach an agreement. Every day a car sits in a tow lot, the insurance company pays for storage. The longer it takes to settle the more they pay. OTOH, if the owner gives them permission to take the car to a salvage pool, they aren't paying storage and can stall as long as they want.
