Maybe if they install little helper gas springs on them, but I bet right now that design is heavy... I've seen people add little gas springs to make the tailgate easier to lift and drop.

Just googled tailgate ladder and found these. Doubt the Tacomas have the much clearance for these though. Mine was about 2 inches I think.

Did you mean to say "even less clearance"? :D

That's def an interesting idea for sure - although that tailgate likely weights way more than extra steps :D but probably safer than a step stool. I was lucky enough to pick up the aluminum scissor steps for a song, they are not perfect either - super slippery in the snow/rain but I saw large (6" x 12" I think) deck tape that i'm considering adding to the treads.

I think some of the others would work too since there is that gap on the side. Would just have to remove the ladder completely and store it beside the Kimbo. Who wants to try???

Kitchen getting its finishing touches right now. Girlfriend was away on a ski trip so turned the kitchen into my shop during our big dump. Still have some accessories to install once the finishing is done. Really pleased with the outcome, added adjustable shelves, just can’t wait to get it installed and be done with the first round of mods for this thing. So close to adventuring. Already coming up with new projects like a phone holder/charger box for the far side of the bed.

Shed some weight this afternoon and de-stickered the Kimbo. Really didn't need that 3M wheel. Peeled off pretty easy once the corner is started. About 50 degrees out side in the sun.

You guys really got hammered over there huh? I actually lived in fort collins from 2015-2019, miss it almost every day :D back in the rainy midwest now. I'll never forget the shock of getting snow in May over there

Looks like your kitchen is coming together nicely, any plans to paint the wood or leave as is? And were you still planning a second sleep platform? I like what spacerhover did but Im curious what other possibilities might exist to accommodate a guest or 2 in the camper...

Yeah you know how it is. This was a good one. We were able to build a snow shelter that fit us both and the dogs. Didn't last long and we have almost 70's tomorrow.

The last picture is the second coat of Tung oil. I sanded it and gave it one last coat yesterday. Should be adding some poly tomorrow and work on the install Sunday-Monday hopefully. Our table is designed to close the gap for now and allow you to lay out or sleep. I think Kimbo V2.0 this fall may be something more substantial with storage underneath though. I think we've done enough to get us started comfortably for now. Now that I have my systems in place and not scared to drill into it, I definitely see a lot of cool possibilities. A wood paneled wall would be pretty nice at some point.

This is such a cool thread & thanks so much for setting up, I just put my deposit down on a Kimbo and am so pumped! Been love seeing everyone’s built outs and sharing!

would anyone be willing the share their measurements? what’s the Width and length of the driver side bench? And what’s the length and width of the kitchen area with no Kimbo mods

@Voltron4x4 love what your doing with the kitchen cabinet there? Mind sharing the height, length, width of it?
    Thanks!

Welcome Joby1 and Congrats on your Kimbo purchase! The driver side bench all in inches, is aprox 51 1/4 X 13 5/8 there is also a 5 inch slope (looks like a 45 degree angle from the back of the bench to the sidewall also the goal zero case protrudes into that 51 inches by 9 inches on the side closest to the loft and mine is mounted 4 inches above the bench. The Kitchen area is trapezoid type shape with 37 at the front and 29 in at the back. Hope that gets you started on your modification plans. I would recommend either having the camper in hand or confirming with the factory before building anything as these although pretty well standard at this point, are still evolving.

Welcome man! Stoked for you and thanks, the kitchen is coming together well. Looking forward to all the custom work from everyone here. I can get the measurements tomorrow of the kitchen. Just moved it inside and got it secured. Let us know if you have any other questions.

thats kitchen is looking awesome - just picked this up tonight, more of a utilitarian option. Looking for mounting options and may even mount on the other side next to the closet strut, we’ll see...prob won’t get to for a bit.

Damn that’s sweet. I just mounted mine and the spacers I made worked very well. Using two 5/16 stainless steel bolts to the back wall. Looking forward to see how it all comes together.

Just finished tonight before the next snow. Happy it fit through the door. I also have two new holes in the side. Wine glass holder, magnetic strip, and spice rack holder, and water tank still need to get installed. Should be done end of the week after I get some longer bolts. There is an aluminum L bracket between the Kimbo and the backsplash attached to the outside of the wood panels. I reused the aluminum that I cut to put the heater in. It’s pretty solid. I think it brings the other two pieces together nicely. Hopping on the road soon to test it out.
