I hope to pick up my new TRD Off-road next week. Based on what I have been reading in the forums for the last few months, it seems like I will want to have the OVTune flash done. But I have a few questions:

    1) Should I wait until I have a few thousand miles in the truck before doing this flash or just go ahead and get it done?

    2) When I take the truck in for service, will they re-flash back to stock? Should *I* put it back to stock before it goes in for service?

    3) How easy is it to screw up the flash process? Should I do it myself or have someone else do it? (Dallas, Texas rdgion.) What hardware do I need to do a flash?

I appreciate any input you can give.

My suggestion is just to drive it for a while and see if you even need a tune. I also have a ‘21 OR and find that I don’t suffer from all of the problems that the forums tell me my truck has (in fact it really is hard to fault it at all). For sure I’d drive it for the 1k miles at very least to let it “learn” and see where you are then.

Are you coming from another 3rd gen like myself? I took the plunge at the same time, barely owned my truck for a month by the time I was tuning it. But I had eyeballed OV for years prior and the newer truck still lacked. It takes quite a bit of money to get started, but I think it pays for itself in the long run. Couldn't hurt to wait. You might just get used to it and accept it or when you do finally get tuned, you'll recognize how much different it drives.

You won't have to worry about anything when taking the truck in for service.

That's kind of based on your experience and/or understanding of the instructions. After flashing a few times, you won't be so concerned.
