Figured I would try and tackle my wife’s 2015 Venza oil change after recently doing my oil change on the 13’ Tacoma. I have some filters on order from (www.toyotapartsdeal.com). I also have some gaskets from the local dealer for the oil pan plug, a wrench tool, and some Toyota 0W-20 oil for it. Just was wondering if anyone had any tips, tricks, etc. or is this pretty straightforward? Am I missing anything as far as what I need to do this successfully?

The Venza is a V6, 3.5L if not mistaken and a video I found on YouTube suggests I add about 0.4qts to the filter housing before screwing it all back on. I know this filter is similar to a 3rd gen Taco, but wasn’t sure if this was a necessary step or not?? I can’t find much more than a capacity of 6.4qts and recommended viscosity in the Owners Manual. Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

If the Venza has the same oil filter canister as we do on the 3.5 Tacoma then more than likely expect it to be on super tight, the kids at all those places love to over tighten them.

I’ve heard horror stories of such things; as well as it can be quite messy. Some of the reasons I want to do oil changes on both our vehicles is because of things like overtightening the filter housing, removing the plug under my Tacoma filter catch pan, reusing the washer on the drain plug, and possibly overfilling the oil, etc.

I do all of mine at home too, not worth the hassle travelling to the dealer and have them screw stuff up.

Venza oil change was a success! No issues taking off the filter housing and drain plug for it. I will say as some of you already know its quite messy but managable with the plastic drain tool they give you in the Toyota filter box. The whole thing start to finish took me less than 45min tops.
