5B217026-7725-45C3-9350-8562296D2DF8.jpg I recently took my first trip to the State Park in Big Bend. This place is amazing! I used to backpack in the national park a long time ago and have always enjoyed the area.
While i was there, i took my kiddos to one of the 4WD trail campsites and it was terribly overgrown after a while. So, after i came back home, i called the park and am now in contact with the Park super for road maintenance. After a brief conversation he was excited at the idea of having a group out to do some trail clearing. The park would waive the campsite and entrance fees. (Obviously) i had never been to this park and had no idea it’s such an awesome place. It’s like an off-roader’s paradise. Just putting out a feeler to see if anyone would be interested in something like this. I’m super stoked at the opportunity to be a part of this.

I also just got back from Big Bend, loved it out there. Helping out the state park sounds neat, let me know when y'all plan on clearing it:thumbsup:

Will do. I figure if we can pull together a group of 5 or 6 people, we can set a date. Hopefully before it gets Texas hot out there.

Cool! I’m doing travel work right now, but my schedule should come out in the next week or so. Anyone have any time constraints? Length of stay preferences?

I’m free anytime in the next month, after that it’ll be getting hot anyway.

Okay, sorry guys. Been working a lot the last couple of weeks. So, I’m not sure I’ll be able to squeeze a few days off while I’m still on this assignment. This one will end in mid May. Would this be a deal breaker for most of the people in the group? I know it will be hot already, but the nights should be somewhat bearable.
Wish this could have worked sooner in the season. It was damn cold at night when i went with my kids.

Might be a little late but I’m certainly interested. Depending on the time, I might have classes but will go if none. Cheers!

I'm there again in October but out at Yedra 2...another 4x4 trail albeit light weight trail compared to Guale. I had no problems getting out to Guale mesa and camping at Guale 2 a few months ago. Truck/rims have some light scratching from brush in the dry creek bottoms but it is to be expected out there. The last part of the road down to the camp sucked balls though due to a slight drop off on the southern side of the road. Gosh dang just about shart myself to be honest.

In saying that, Craig (the superintendent of BBRSP) has moved on to greener pastures up in Wyoming. They are looking for a sup. Saucedo ranch house will see improvements in FY 22 or 23.

I'm probably in the minority here but I'd say leave the overgrowth as it is - all of it. Let the manicuring happen on national park lands and let this slice of paradise stay wild. I voice this every single time I'm there. I've even wrote TPWD customer service on this very topic. Moment I see a paved road will be my last trip there. Highly doubt it would happen in my life time though. Let it stay wild!

Bumping back to the top- did a trip ever happen here?!?! Now that it is cooling off for the season, could be fun to revisit.

Would be down for some clean up or just a group trip?!?!

Craig was very pleasant to visit with. He and his entire staff was super chill.

I'm sure there are certain areas that need shovel and pick work.

I would leave the undergrowth as is. BBRSP needs to stay rough

If yall plan another trip, post up.
The view from Guale II needs a refresh for me, and would love to do the Road to nowhere again.
