What kind of grille do I have and what should I do with it??

I have a `21 SR5. I just got it in December and have been slowly accessorizing and customizing it. I'm trying to think of how to dress up my grille, short of dropping $$ on a new grille, but I can't find any photos out there of anyone with my grille who has customized it in any way. Even when I image search "2021 SR5 Tacoma stock grille" I get mostly TRD Pro grilles and a few cheesegraters.

I've done a mockup (included below) of adding some taco vinyl decals to the grille, and I actually have the decals but I'm hesitant to put them on. I don't know how decals will look on top of the grille. I don't want them to actually look like stickers. The plastic badge offered by Taco Vinyl is pretty cool but it doesn't look like there's any way to attach it to my grille without drilling holes (I guess that's an option). Without replacing this grille, what would you do to it?

 

Personally, the TRD Pro grille thing has been done to death. I wouldn't, especially on a SR5. I think it would look a little desperate.

 

The mock-up definitely gives me 2nd gen vibes in a good way.
I like the idea, only thing else I’d do to it is take it apart and plastidip the chrome grill surround black.

Just leave it the way it is. With the way things are going, original is gonna be the best new mod out there.

Yes - I have no desire to put a TRD grille on my SR5. I just want to add a little color to my existing grille. Or do you mean the tri color accent / badge thing has been done to death?

The pro grill might as well come stock on all trim levels cause it’s pretty much what everyone wants, that’s why there’s tons of knockoff versions available, even my base SR has one and I love it! I really dig the new 2021 SR5 grills though. Just paint the chrome trim and you’re good.

 

I have a 2021 SR5 and I changed it to the TRD Pro. I like it. Do what makes you happy.

 

I actually really like that sr5 grille. One thing I would recommend is put some vinyl of the Toyota logo to customize it a little bit and to get rid of the chrome. See c_mento_taco_808 for some examples, they look awesome!

Like others have said, paint the surround black. I added a little red too.

Your SR grill looks good, just change it up a little more to make it yours.

 

While that emblem overlay does in fact look pretty sick, how would you not be completely sketched out by putting potentially disruptive materials over the TSS ?

 

Remove those retro decals and do this one instead.

 

I have yet to receive mine but I was skeptical too. Others users on here and the creator himself say they have had it on for months and had no tss problems. I believe them, TSS sensor uses some type of radio waves that passes right right through non-transparent abs plastic so vinyl seems to not be an issue either.

 

You forgot to mention the SR5 grille looks way better.
