Hopefully to get some advice here, recently got the dreaded P0302 OBD check engine code. I'm glad I got this this 2 days after the smog check. Anyway today I went ahead switched the coil pack from to see if it was the coil pack vs. the fuel injector. after the switch the engine check went away, but it has a rough idle but doesn't feel like a misfilre. The idle is real low at 630 RpM according to the device I'm using.

questions: should I go ahead replace the coil packs or just let it run for a couple of days and see if it comes back.

    thanks for any input.

I'd see if it comes back, did you look at the condition of the sparkplug while you were there?
Idle speed seems about right for hot idle maybe a tad on the low side, what engine do you have?

Ran it for 2 hours sitting in the drive way, didn't have any engine codes. But when I checked the OBD scanner it reads it has a saved code of P0302 but no errors are coming up. I didn't check the spark plugs, but I do have replacement(s). Oh yeah it's a 3.4L engine. thanks for the input.

The code will remain in history until it is cleared or enough drive cycles have passed without the failure.

Sounds like plugs and wires wouldn’t be a bad thing though

Okay before I could make around the corner it started to misfire and same code came up. Went ahead replaced the spark plugs and factory wires. Wires are real nice as they come loomed with all the fittings. When pulling the ngk wires I noticed cylinder 2 slipped out with no resistance. I tried pushing back in but it wouldn't sit. Anyway after I replaced the plugs and wires it's running smooth again.

Those are the plugs that were pulled out. Cylinder 5 plug had oil on the threads. Would that be a sign I need to replace the valve cover gasket? Thanks again.
