If you choose not to carry a spare while out in the boonies then don't go flagging down and expecting everyone to stop what their doing and help you out.

It's really irresponsible and could even be unsafe to venture off road without a good working spare.

Strap it to the front of the bed standing up. Do you have a tool box? Don't leave it at home....

The tire, not the tool box......

Install a front hitch mount. Get a spare tire carrier for the hitch.

Don't worry about air flow. There are large areas under and thru the bumper for air.

I'm fully aware you can't just bolt on some 37s without a lot of work. I've already said I am armchair quarterbacking here.

One of the "things" I tend to respond to and discuss on this forum are the mods people "need" to do to their trucks in order to go offroading. And my answer is always the same: none. Aside form basic safety gear and maybe a winch or some decent all terrain tires, 100% stock trucks are far more capable than the average driver. I can appreciate not wanting to get stuck while you're out hunting, so I assume you have a winch for that as well. Big tires don't exactly prevent you from getting stuck, although they do allow you to get into more hairy situations before you do get stuck, lol.

So while it may be impractical for you to simply go back to smaller tires, I'm of the opinion that this serves as a good topic of discussion for those who may be considering much larger tires because they think they need them, when likely they don't.

That said, if you are at the point where you are considering leaving your spare tire at home because it's too big, I think ALL options should still be on the table, including downsizing. You wouldn't be the first to go down one route only to realize it doesn't really fit your needs or lifestyle, and back track, or basically start over.

Many of us are here for the learning possibilities - appreciate your view on sharing ideas. I'm with you on this - been a few places already I was psyched to have my 4x4 Taco, only to find someone beat me there in a Prius.

To the OP - I totally get why you might question needing a spare, I haven't had to patch a tire in 25 years. I also firmly believe that Murphy will visit me on the trail the very first time I leave the spare at home...

Plugs, slime, compressor and a roll of the dice. If you know the woods/roads and how to drive chances are very good you will be fine. I wouldn't sweat it. Or you could carry 4 spares just in case.

Strap it to the top of the GFC? Might want to upgrade the gas struts..

If you didn't like the weight distribution when you mocked it up you're really not going to like it with the added mass of a swing out setup back there but if I was ever going to travel without a spare it would definitely not be when I had the wife and kids with me.
