I'm going to be powder coating the stock 16" x 7" alloy rims on my 2017 SR5 which currently have the stock 245 75 R16 tires on them, and eventually I want to install some 265 70 R16's to keep the tire diameter close to that of the 245's.

From what I've found looking at tire sizing charts, you can mount a 265 70 R16 on a 7" width rim as the approved rim width range for this tire is 7" to 9". So with the stock height suspension is their going to be any rubbing issues with the 265 70 R16 tires.

    Thanks.

265/70 is the stock size tire that comes on the off road and all factory 16" wheels are 16x7 so there is no worries at all.

I'm doing the same (minus the powder-coating) in a week. First tire shop I went to immediately said "let's put 265/70's on it - will really make it look better" Okay, I'm game, but he couldn't get the tires I wanted (Firestone AT2 - on Nat'l backorder) so I went to my local Sam's Club for Goodyear Wrangler A-T Adventure. The 60,000 mile warranty and almost $200 in savings swayed me. Will come back when they're on.

Why not find a full set of 265/70R16 takeoffs with aluminum rims off another truck? I saw sets of four on Craigslist for $650 when I was still in AZ.

No rubbing. 265/75/16 is the largest tire you can fit at stock height

Honestly, never considered that. Just took a quick look in my area - one set of tires only (virtually new) for $375, a set of takeoffs with low tread for $650, another set of 2020 takeoffs with wheels for $1200. I'm comfortable with the route I'm taking (getting full warranty, etc.) for $600 and don't have to worry about "sketchiness" on CL. I appreciate the tip, though, and it will probably work for someone else looking to do this.

Okay, the Wrangler A-T Adventures at 265/70/r16 are on and no rubbing whatsoever. Definitely "grippier" and sidewall is stiffer. They look good. Any added road noise from the OEM Firestones at 245/75/r16 (not an A/T tire) is negligible. They are set at 34psi and ride fine. Too soon to tell about mileage difference, if any - will monitor next full tank and a few hundred miles. This is on a 2017 SR5 DB 4WD.

I'd drop the air down to 29 psi cold.. will ride better. That is what pressure those tires are supposed to be at on the TRD offroad.

Update from previous post. Kept at 34psi and ride is fine for me. Getting 21-23 highway mpg so not bad. Definitely lost a few mpg during stop and go in local traffic. The look is definitely an upgrade. Overall happy with choice and would do again. If I get anywhere near 60,000 miles out of them, I'll be thrilled. Thanks to everyone for their input.

Just got my SR5 rims powder coated to match my TRD PRO 16in rims and quite happy in the gloss black look, planning to put my 265 75 16 I just took of my SCS, that was upgraded to 285's
Will run these for a while till I decide to sell um20210304_072530.jpg

You can fit 255/85R16s and the 17" equivalent at stock height with no cutting. They're a 33" tire (give or take depending on brand).
