Only half decent welds from today's practice session.

Anybody got any warnings or recommendations with a synchrowave 250? I have a diversion 165 and the synchro just seems like it has more growth potential although it is older. Are there points that need to be cleaned inside of it? It does come with a water cooled torch setup and for the price I can pretty much even trade up from my diversion. The syncrowave is not the DX it is the older CC/with AC/DC setup.

    Help.

    I got a forney 125 welder. 110v

I recently changed my wire out to the same exact Flux cored wire I was using before and now it's acting like it doesn't have enough voltage.

Went from almost burning holes through 14 guage to big ropey welds.

Changed tips. Cleaned ground. Screwed with wire feed tension for hours.

    Reserected from the dead.
Is the wire coming off the spool the same way as the old spool? Might have to flip the spool.

Are you sure you have a good ground? It's happened to me more than a few times. :anonymous:

Haha. Im pretty sure, I have a few spots on this project that I took the flap disc to, but now I'm wondering if it's the ground lead itself.

I'm just at a loss for what could go wrong between changing wire. I even tried a different spool of wire

Made more progress on my skid. Now its together enough that I can put it on, which is good because I really messed up the stock one now lol. Pulled that bolt out of the frame and the mud caked in the skid held the bolt for probably about 370miles. Uncaked it and brushed it off, bolt threads still look good lol. Frame holes are slightly boogered because I drilled out a few broken bolts like an ape from underneath. I'm hoping the weld nuts are big enough that I can drill them out to m10 without having to weld in new

made a spacer for the rear of the skid, since that crossmember isn't flat. still need to add 2 more layers

    Next steps are:
    • some more gussets in the center
    • add bolt head protection for the rear bolts
    • more spacers at rear crossmember
    • drill hole for oil drain bolt
    • weld solid and grind to make pretty
    • paint
    • Make trans and tcase skids

Finished up a couple of welding hand rests I’ve been chipping away at over the last few weeks. Bases and vertical bars are 6061 and the horizontal bar is thin walled dom, ball welded to the end is from a tacoma cv. Hand rests were built to be clamped to the bench, but I did throw magnets in the 12” rests base.
