Driver's Side Engine Bay to Cab Grommet for Wiring? - 2nd Gen

Are there any other grommets for passing wire from the engine bay (battery) through the cab?

I see a lot of people use the large grommet, but that some also say there are some smaller grommets in that area (behind the brake booster)...they were talking about 3rd gens...don't know if that applies to 2nd gens as well.

I'm trying to run 10ga to the bed storage compartment for 12v outlet and other accessory installs...I was thinking of going under the driver's side floorboard trim and out that grommet there.

Any tips on routing through the grommet on the side of the driver's seat would be greatly appreciated...it seems like it tucked under the seat a bit and a little difficult to access.

 

Why not run it from the battery junction box under the hood if all you need is 12v power?

 

It's going to be running a Dometic 95 fridge/freezer using the Dometic hardwiring kit...They recommended going straight to the battery.

Would tying in to the battery junction box work for that much draw?

And, honestly, I don't even know what the junction box is or where it is located...Any advice in this area would be greatly appreciated.

 

How many amps are you needing back there?
If you just want constant battery power I would put it on one of the 2 posts I circled just make sure you use the apropriate sized fuse inline.

 

Thank you. I think it's something like 7-8 amps? I've got the positive wire to the positive battery post and the black wire to what I am assuming is the battery ground on the side wall...I'll post a couple of pics...I'm wondering if the black wire connection is correct.

 

Looks good to me, that's body ground but it's connected directly to battery negative so your good.
I would get you some baking soda and water and clean that battery before it starts corroding your cables.

You had the right model there...Thanks for confirmation on amp draw...Hardwiring kit has the fuse in line.

 

Then you should be good to go.

 

Make sure you rinse it good with water when you are done.

 

Just a bit of an update...I ran the cable from the battery and followed another loom at the top of the engine compartment firewall. I'll post pics....I cut the nub off the grommet on the passenger side firewall (is that the correct term?), cut an "x" in it with a utility knife, poked a hole through the carpet with a screwdriver, fished the wire through...and that's where I left it for today...zip tied and wire loom in the engine compartment....

I'm going to go back tomorrow and run the cable through the grommet under the passenger seat, down the frame rail and up into the storage compartment.
