I've been using progressive for years. To be fair, they never asked about modifications, and I never volunteered that information either. Though I also don't use it for work either.

I think if it’s totaled you take all your mods off first? Then insurance kicks in for the rest. But yeah for wheels and suspension that’s a pickle isn’t it. Oh and the alternator. Definitely need to harvest that.

I've heard mixed stories about this. Some say this is the route to go, others say they will pay KBB value for the vehicle + cost of mods up to the max value on your policy, though you need receipts for said mods. Either way, it is almost always a fight with your insurance to get anything more than minimum from them.

I only use for work 10% or less of the time. My work has given me a van for this.
But some of the 5G mmWave cell phone towers that I have to boot up and bring up are in the middle of no where, and there are no proper roads and offsite, and the sprinter van doesn't have enough ground clearance. This one time it got stuck too.
So i transfer some of the gear and equipments over to my truck and take that into the cell tower site and hope and pray that I don't get killed out there or get struck by a lightning.
When I explained my problem, my work was nice to pay for some of the upgrades for my truck, off-road flood lights to light up the job site, cooling systems, higher gauge wires, high output alternator, Li battery banks to power when truck's off. Still incomplete.
While I didn't itemize each of them or volunteer that information, I simply asked each time out of curiosity because of wheels and shocks and upcoming shocks/skids etc.
Yep, exactly. I always wondered if others here got any coverage on mods/parts they've added. I am guessing the lack of chatter on this topic much in the threads perhaps means salvage what you can and just shrug off the losses is the norm.

Doesn't matter if it's 1%, 10%, 99%, or just 1 mile. Once they know it's for work they are going to throw you onto a different type of policy. If you tell them why like you just did us, they will charge you even more, if they even cover you at all.

Ok. Got it. So how do people with mods get insurance coverage. I can say vehicle is used only for commute which it is almost all the time except rare exceptions. Im still trying to understand if all the taco's with mods and wheels and rigs are not covered or covered. Does insurance only cover a stock vehicle in event of accident/theft?

It depends. In terms of theft, my understanding is that they will cover just about anything that has been stolen from the vehicle, including non vehicle items like a purse, wallet, or mona lisa up to the maximum of your policy. I believe that falls into the comprehensive category. In terms of an accident It's hit or miss. Some insurers offer supplemental policies to cover addons specifically.

    Yes
It is called an "assumed value" policy, not all companies offer them and never mention using a vehicle for work. An assumed value policy is basically you and your insurer setting a value for the vehicle and then you pay a premium to cover it. RE: using your truck for work - Technically speaking most insurance policies don't cover anything but your average daily commute to a single work location. With my last employer I had to pay about 25% more for a policy that allowed me to drive to a different work location daily but luckily I had a reimbursement policy through my employer that covered it. Don't mention work or anything but driving to the same work location every day.

Hope you guys are having a great weekend! Seems like Summer is sneaking up on us based on the fact it was over 90 degrees a few days ago. And lucky me, I got to do some welding wearing extra layers to keep from spontaneously combusting..
I finally got my interwebz working on my end (again!) so Im able to communicate! I live in Vista, but based on my cell service you would think I'm in deep cave somewhere on a small island.
And since I still have a fractured Scapula it's getting a bit old, I apparently fractured the entire plate from top to bottom almost directly in the center, but still doing stuff on trucks and welding 5-6 days a week. It stopped audibly popping a few weeks ago, felt like I was hit by lightning when that happened.
Those motorcycles can be dangerous kids!

Is anyone interested in some free items? I'm located in Vista and you'd have to drive to me.

    - tire chains for: 245/70-19.5, 265/75 16, 275/65-17, 275/65/16(what it says on the bag)
    - sleeping pad. It has a leak and I don't have patches nor the patience to find the hole(heh)
    - cooler. Approx exterior dimensions 18"H, 24"L, 12"W
    - stock 3rd gen fog lights
    - other miscellaneous items unrelated to trucks/camping which you can go through if you come here for the above items

    Speaking from my own experience,

I got a little too enthusiastic playing with my truck the first time in Ocotillo, and did a hefty amount of damage. Figured I'd play it straight with my insurance and see whether they'd help me out. They ended up looking at it as a comprehensive claim, and assessed pretty much all damage on the entire truck to figure out the total repair bill, some of which was unrelated or cosmetic. Had I not provided them with a list of the stuff I'd done to my truck along with as many email receipts I could scrounge up, I would have had to total my truck (according to the adjuster). Because I did provide those items and increase the value just enough, the total repair bill came in just below the salvage amount, and insurance cut me the check for the repair after paying my deductible.

Went out into Sandstone Canyon and went pretty deep into the trail crawling with some buddies, which caused some body damage. Stock 2014 Baja

On the way there, cresting a ridge, I didn't see a rock sticking out of the ground and hit it a little too hard on the driver's LCA, tweaked the frame

The entire time, never realized my battery was never properly secured (previous owner upgraded battery without upgrading to longer J hooks), and bouncing around it's little pocket in the engine bay. resulted in a torn trans line by the end of the day. patched it up enough to get me home, and the trans failed as I was pulling into my driveway 2 hours away.

I could have caused significantly less damage had I just had it towed as soon as I got it out of the dirt, but I was dumb, and it was my first outing. I was entirely honest with the adjuster from the beginning, and told him exactly what happened. He turned out to be an offroader as well, and was understanding about it. Appreciated the honesty.
