Surprisingly not as much of an increase as I thought. I think the big benefit is from minimal junk in the center and bunch of clearance in front of the wheels.

It’s really that damn winch that kills it. If I could ditch that I would gain a lot because the next thing to hit would be the bottom of my grille.

 

I went to disassemble the second CV for the LT axles and broke that one too. Hit it too hard with the brass hammer I guess.

i posted up AGAIN asking for axles locally and someone had two complete outer joints. Well ok then. He swapped in manual hubs and just had these laying around. $120 which is fantastic.

Especially because now I need to source outer boots and Toyota doesn’t sell those on their own, only in the kit to service a whole axle. Those are $50 each. So you’re really not spending much on the labor for them to assemble them.

I checked and they don’t, only the inner boot.

See here’s the thing......I COULD have saved them but I didn’t have the foresight to.

 

Dobinsons sells just inners and just outers as a pair. I though that was dumb until now, where it might actually be helpful. As far as quality of material, I'm not sure.

 

That’s good to hear. I’m going to stick with oem because I know the quality is good. Besides, these axles are like $1700. What’s another extra $50 to buy oem vs aftermarket boots lol

 

Thats true, only a drop in the ocean lol. I think the plasticy material of the OEM boots will probably hold up better too.

 

A few of the welds on my bumper where round meets round tube are straight garbage because of terrible fitment. This was my first tube project and I was doing all the coping with an angle grinder. Took a lot of trial and error to even get close enough. I’d had enough of looking at it so I ground it smooth and blended it. Dunno why I didn’t so this sooner, it took 15 minutes.
