The yellow sticker is due to having the port added "predator tubes". Those will come off, but 140 pounds of Caliraised Rock Sliders are going on. Toss on aluminum skid plate (68 pounds),
RSI Smart Cap (240?) and I'm down to 540 pounds for people and cargo.

The four Cylinder AC 2WD is 1500 pounds load capacity.

It is what the sticker says, don't overload the axle and if you have too much sag for what you wanna do put some airbags on it. As long as you don't overload your axle you should be fine. Tons of (sticker) sticker overweight Tacomas here and on the road...tons..... Most Tacomas are overweight with a family of 4 and a good trip to Costco...

 

anyone else take "me, wife, kid = 400lbs" and tried to do the quick-math to see who was chronically obese only to be let down?

 

Ha! I actually slightly overshot (by about 15lbs) and trust me, the wife let me know! She said, "Can you edit that??, I don't want your 'truck friends' thinking I'm larger!"

I told her if anyone says anything I'll say I'm the one who needs to run more ...

 

One small but very important point.

Any modifications or add-ons will increase the weight of the "empty" truck, thereby reducing the Cargo capacity. The GVWR doesn't change.

To be sure. Take your truck to a CAT scale with you and a full fuel tank. Weigh it and you. Subtract this from the GVWR to find your cargo load capacity.

Some manufacturers publish the cargo load capacity with a 150 lb driver and full fuel tank subtracted from the GVWR.

 

Pro and Off Road use the same exact tires.

 

No. The payload is the payload from Toyota. It cannot change no matter what mods you make.

 

It's on you. Toyota rated it and that's final.

If you need to haul 2400 pounds of dog food, don't use a Tacoma.

My Ford Transit Cargo was rated at 9500 pounds, empty it tipped the scale at a little over 5,500 pounds. The funny part is it rode so much nicer with 2500 pounds in the back.

I'm old gray hair. I've been in court, you do not want to find yourself in the hot seat getting grilled knowing what is at stake (Texas you can keep your house and retirement fund). You think "meh, what's the worst that could happen, I'm broke all my money is in my truck" Garnished wages for the next 25 years will just suck. Go through a truck scale to get an official weight.

The engineer in me thinks it could be rated for a much higher payload, but wouldn't want to be in the hot seat explaining that. I'm surprised Toyota didn't go over 6000 GVWR for EPA and Emissions (one reason Ford loves their trucks).

The good news is I went from 308# down to 235#, so an extra 70# capacity. My Golden Retriever weighs 65#, so it's worth it!

 

An AWD Honda Ridgeline has over 500 pounds more payload than my DCLB 4x4 Tacoma. Maybe I should have bought a real truck.

 

Your truck is already modified for an increase in payload so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Someone else also brought up a good point about upgrading brakes when adding more weight or power to the vehicle

 

Lol you cannot increase payload unless you make brake, frame, drivetrain mods and then go through the process of legal certification which costs more money than anything but a corporation has.

When a wrecker manufacturer buys a Ford chassis to install their wrecker, they have to change payload. Same for a utility truck manufacturer.

For us, it is what it is. You either stay under or go over payload... there is no increasing it just because you added a leaf spring lol.

 

I think I worded that wrong lol. I was referring to the aftermarket parts being able to hold the max payload for longer. Im sure holding the max payload for years at a time on stock parts will lead to issues

I had a 1978 short wide Chevy Big 10 in the 80's. It had a heavy option, meaning it had 3/4 ton springs, brakes, crossmembers and wheels yet was rated at half ton for EPA reasons. It truly was a 3/4 ton truck.

 

5 or 8 lug wheels? not that it matters because t was still a half ton truck.

 

8 lug, but the cooling and everything else was standard half ton. It was a cool truck lol. I kept it until it rusted away to unsafe levels. It got about 9 mpg.
