Valley of the gods has some great off road/BLM camping. Haven’t been in almost 10 years, but loved it.

For recording!!! I use the Nexar Dash Cam honestly it's the best "budget" dash cam. It records audio as well and the quality is pretty good. My truck is my daily driver and I travel for a living and spend enough time on the road, the Dash Cam is essential for documenting those idiotic drivers! I ended up using an adaptor to source power form the Rear View Mirror and it works seamlessly. It auto syncs' to my google drive and if you get a big enough memory card, you never had to worry about running out of space. You can then go in after the fact using some elementary video editing software and pull still photo's and what not. Would highly recommend it! Worth the money! We send clips and photos to our family and they love it. We've even built a photo collage from it. The only downfall is you'll need a separate camera or portable power source if you want to use it like a go-pro. I haven't tried that yet. I'll let ya know how it goes!
