Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
    Getting the app stuff sorted...

Can opt out of data transmission...on the fence whether I want more privacy or convenience.

    Looking for opinions.

The way I look at it is, “big brother” already has our information. Or they can get it easily if they want it.

    I’d rather have convenience.

Convince for me. If Big Brother is watching me, he’s likely bored out of his mind. o_O

Those who give up privacy for convenience deserve neither! (sorry, it had to be said!)
Now that it HAS been said, personally I found no Connected Services which were truly useful or worth the effort so I didn't activate any of them.

Eh, if Toyota or Big Brother wants to know that last week I drove to a large chain grocery store to buy Tums at 11 at night, I’m okay with them knowing that LOL!

Privacy?... LOL.. what privacy? that does not exist. unless you live in a cave in the middle of nowhere and never, ever.. use a phone, a debit card, a bank account, tv service, delivery service, shop online, have a drivers license and social security card, or even have the occasional blood test. the list is just way to long to list. just enjoy the convenience and be happy..

I like the connected features and could just cut out a beer or 2 a week to pay for it. When the trial expires ill defiantly be paying for it. its only 80 bucks,

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
If you have your phone with you, Big Brother already knows where you are. I don't think disabling a feature on your truck is going to protect anyone's privacy.

I see no one here has read the fine.

They actually tell you that they record voice and camera data to be used or sold at their discretion.

Yes, I have a phone. I also have an RFID sleeve for it. You can use your microwave when at home...ready made faraday cage.

If y'all haven't noticed, we are waist deep in totalitarian authority at the moment and the levels are rising daily. Yes, your life can be ruined for words that you speak in your truck in percieved privacy while tooling down the interstate. I used to think that was fantasy, it's a brave new world we live in.

Sounds like you've already made up your mind. Why are you seeking opinions?

I just can't imagine living my life with that level of paranoia about someone recording my conversations or tracking my every movement.

Curious if you believe they actually stop recording/tracking if you opt out of the connected services agreement. Or do they just tell you they've disconnected that feature?

That's an interesting point. What if its all a show and they always record? I think Amazon alexa with voice command is always recording/listening for keywords.

for what it's worth, I actually called Toyota to tell them I do not want to be tracked
The rep asked if I had signed up for any connected services
    I said I had not
He said only when you opt in/sign up for to Connected Services are your activities being actively tracked

That being said, the DCM (Data Communication Module) is always ON and always CONNECTED to the Wi-Fi connection in your vehicle, even if you are not subscribed. Toyota actively collects TELEMETRY data about the operation of your vehicle for R&D purposes, product improvement, marketing research, service information and others. This cannot be switched off unless you pull the fuse which unfortunately will also disable Bluetooth functionality.

    Exactly.

Any company nefarious enough to track you, record your conversations, sell your info to another party, etc. isn't just going to stop doing so because you tell a 1-800 customer service operator and say "please stop."

If you don't want to be tracked that way, you'd better cancel cell phone service, cut off your home wi-fi and sell your Taco for a '73 Ford Galaxie 500. Pretty sure that one didn't come with an option for connected services.
