Driving this am . Conditions little bit windy . Traveling at 45mph .. out of no where the truck starts to beep at me and displays to brake ?? No car in front of me. Only thing I noticed was a truck slightly out of the turn lane ahead of me about 15feet ..error or are these systems this dam sensitive ? Truck only has 9k miles . No errors after it happened .

Mine has gotten less twitchy as I put on miles, but it was overly sensitive for quite a few thousand miles after I bought it.

When it detects a panic situation and I don’t even apply the brake pedal the dumb effer seemed to learn.

I’ve had a few false positives usually due to strange angles or if I’m approaching a stopped vehicle fast and changing lanes last minute to turn right at a light. It’s also saved me from an accident at least twice on the highway when I was distracted.

I also had a few strange warnings during the first few thousand miles. I think the system learns as you drive. Both of mine came when I was going through a series of tighter turns with no traffic around. I assume it sensed something on the corner ahead of me. Haven't had any issues since then and am over 6000 miles now.

Never a single false alarm in 22k, it has gone off twice I think, one when some shitbag pulled out in front of, and once when someone in front of me jammed on the brakes on the highway, overreacting to a slow down.

Mine has false alerted on me twice, both when it was new. I know one was triggered from a guardrail combined with a sharp shadow across the road. I couldn't figure out why it alerted the second time, that one was out of nowhere.

Sounds fairly normal to me, 45 mph is a fair rate of speed to be approaching a vehicle that’s out of their lane, even slightly. If it bothers you, you can adjust the sensitivities of the systems through the steering wheel controls.

I had a few problems in roundabouts when the truck was new, but that seems to have stopped. I know I changed the settings at some point - not sure if it was before or after the last time I had an issue, though.

Mine freaked out once as I passed a car turning right which was slowing rapidly. Admittedly, I likely did cut it a bit close - not excessively, but close.
After that, I turned down the sensitivity*. I have not heard from it since - but I also have not seen any similar situations.

*you can adjust this in the dash menu via the steering wheel.

Seems like it is operating as expected. It detected an object in your lane 15' from you while you were traveling 45mph and warned you. The system does not know that the object that it is detecting is in a turning lane.

Might want to get familiar with this document it will help you understand the technology logic a little more, doesnt mean it makes sense just Toyota covers their ass.

I've had a dozen false positives and one event that saved my ass from running over a tiny hatchback when it locked up the brakes doing ~15 mph.

It would've been my fault as I was juggling too many things in crazy DC traffic.

That was when the truck was only a month old. Anyone know of a way to test the auto brake functionality without risking damage? Perhaps setting up an empty cardboard box on a deserted road?

I had mine recently turn off while in cruise control. Started beeping and cut off my cruise setting, then wouldn't let me turn it back on for about 5 miles. After that it work fine again. First time this has happened to me outside of a hard rain or snow.
