Well, After a lot of research I'm lost, and I figure someone here can help me decide. My goal is getting as close to 33X12.50 as possible, but Im not trying to rub every time I hit a bump in a turn either, some rub at full lock with them stuffed won't bother me, but im not sure how close I can get with the setup Im fixing to install. Figure someone in here has a better mind for it if I line out the stats than I do, Metric sizes really screw with my head. Truck is a '14 DCLB 4x4.
Getting the following setup as soon as the leafs come in. Thanks for any help y'all can give.

    Wheels- FN 6 shooter. 17X8, 0mm offset, 4.5" backspacing
Lift- OME kit with 886X coils, 9000 Struts, Heavy Dakars
    UCA's- SPC uppers, factory lowers
Bumper- ARB with a Smittybilt 9500

You can get 33 x 12.5 x 17 tires if that's the size you want. You might end up rubbing with the 12.5 width so you might need to do a cmc. I'm running 305/65/17 tires that come out to around 33 x 12 x 17 on 17x8.5 wheels with -10 offset and I get some rubbing at full lock on the cmc. It's not bad enough for me to want to the cab mount chop though. If you want 12.5 wide tires then you would need to look for 315's but most of those are 315/70/17 which is a 35" tire.

Thats a pretty good lookin setup, Im not married to the 12.5, its just a size im familiar with and I try to stay as wide as possible with as much beach driving as I do. Thanks for the input, 305/65 sounds pretty good to me if I don't have to mess with the chop just yet.

And if you're sticking with the 8" wide wheels, you will get more bulge than I have with the 8.5" wheels.

Fitting a 305/75 tire without a cmc? Good luck.

    I don't think anyone mentioned a 305/75 tire, that would be a 35" tire and he's looking for 33.

305/75r17 would be a 35"x12" tire with a 9" sidewall, if that size existed.

305/70r17 is 33.8"x12" with an 8.4" sidewall, and lots of brands to choose from.

For what it's worth, I've been rocking two sets of FN wheels on two different Tacomas for as long as 7-8 years now without issue.

Why are we using tire tread width to discuss tire height?

33x12.5 is really wide. For reference, 285/70/17 is equivalent to 33x11.5 and even that typically requires a CMC. I think you should just barely clear the UCA (not 100% sure though) but definitely plan on CMC.

    Running 285/75/16s
    First # = metric width
    Second # = % of width
    Third # = rim diameter in inch’s

    305/75/17
    305 dived by 25.4, (25.4 mm = 1”)
    12.0” wide

    12” x .75 = 9” sidewall
    X 2 sidewalls = 18’
    + a 17” wheel = 35”.

If you change the 75 to 70
    12” x .7 = 8.4 (less sidewall) x 2
    = 16.8 + 17 wheel = 33.6

Sorry, misunderstood. Regardless, really doubt it'll fit without modification.

I know how it works - but when i see something like "A 305/ tire will be too tall" without the aspect ratio i get a little itchy and ask the question.

Lots of people don't understand the metric so it's always good to give examples to help out. Since the OP was looking for something close to 33 x 12.5 I mentioned my 305/65 which is close at roughly 33" and 12" wide. I have slightly wider wheels than he has and mine have more of a negative offset which pushes it out farther. We both have the SPC UCA's and mine are at position C and I get just a little rub on the cmc. Since his wheels will be tucked in more, I think he can clear the cmc (depending on his SPC positioning) but I'm not sure if he will rub on the inside. I'm glad I didn't go with the 33x12.5 like I was originally looking at, they would have rubbed even more.

One other tip is to go to tirerack.com and search on a size. Click on a tire like BFG TA2 and click on the specs for it and then you can bring up all the sizes for that tire. It will show the metric size and the actual size in inches as well.

Width has a lot to do with height on metric sizes
