I am trying to replace my tweeter on my standard cab 2nd gen taco. I was initially planning on replacing my old tweeters with some new OEM tweeters (part#86160-04070), because I really want to stick with a plug-n-play.

But I came across the JBL OEM tweeters (part# 86160-04100) and I am wondering if the JBL tweeters would work with my non JBL head unit and connection? Also, do the slight change between the part numbers make a difference?

No, they will not work in your non-JBL

Thanks for saving me time and money, but why won't they work? Is it a different connection? or because of power?

I have little to no knowledge on audio systems which is why I am asking. Is there any plug and play setup for tweeters in the Tacoma?

    It’s a different connector and it’s 2ohm vs the oem speaker that’s 4ohm

Just FYI regarding plug and play. I cut the plug off the OEM's that I removed.

It is very easy to wire the new tweeters with the old plug, and I'm happy with the outcome.

You did that with these exact tweeters? Doesn't the ohms have to match with the rest of the setup? Also do you have pics to reference what you did?

Not those tweeters you posted as those have a plug on them.

I purchased a set off crutchfield. No pics. Just remove old speakers, cut off the plug. Wire old plug to new speakers.

Do you have the stock radio or did that get upgraded?

If you still have the stock radio, spend your money on replacing that first.

The sound you hear is only as good as the source supplying it. The OEM radio is not a very high quality source imo.

Oh yeah I definitely agree, I just recently upgraded to a Boss Audio BE7ACP and upgraded my 6.5 speakers to some Jbl aftermarket speakers and the sound definitely improved. BUT when I turn up the volume my old tweeters sound a little raspy. I may just get New(er) oem tweeters and maybe settle on that.
