Stock wheel fused to brake drum

Has anyone else questioned their tire changing skills after removing lug nuts and not having the wheel budge...?

2018 DCSB Sport, rear right wheel.

That's two firestone destinations I've gotten punctured from rocks on country roads. No longer a fan.

Bigger issue was after removing lug nuts, to swap with spare tire, could not for the life of me get the wheel off. Kicked, pried, WD40'd, lowered vehicle to push up on rim (do not recommend).

Was totally stuck. Luckily local (thanks Greg!) came along and we used his high-lift jack and more beating and prying to break it loose.

Have messaged Toyota about what seems to be a bad choice of materials...

Yep.
2x4 and sledge hammer to the back of the rim.
Anti-seize on the hub face after that. Has never happened again.

Just use anti-seize on the face of the hub and you won’t ever need to break a rim free again. Don’t need a lot of it. I’ve had this happen to tons of vehicles, so it’s not just relegated to Toyota.

 

I cleaned the face of the wheel and drum (do it with the front rotors as well) with a brass wire wheel and then anti seize both, no issues here in rust country, besides always forgetting and putting my hand in the anti seize.

 

Anything in particular? Does WD-40 count as "anti-seize"? Or you talking like some sort of special lube? Thanks

Another way to get a stuck wheel off is to break the lug nuts loose, and SLOWLY drive a little bit around turning back and forth.

This only works on hub-centric wheels, and it's key to leave the lug nuts on, just backed off from their normal torque.

Good strategy, I chickened out of driving on it because the tire was absolutely flat and didn't want to tear it, though turns out hole was so big the shop said they couldn't patch it anyways. Thats a good worst case policy ^^

Been there.
As you can see from the numerous posts, anti-seize is the answer. Apply to all areas where the wheel contacts the hub.
Better still, paint the hub AND apply anti-seize.

 

I'll be glad when April 2nd arrives.

 

When I got the truck new, I could see how the hubs could be a future rust problem. So I wire brushed mine and painted it with rust-oleum high heat black flat paint when I did my first tire rotation. No rust problems or wheel sticking problems so far! I also added a very thin layer of anti sieze for good measure as well.
