How do you lock your pistol up in your truck?

Reality says if I have to go to the Courthouse, School or any other known gun free zone, I leave the weapon at the house. Otherwise, it's here, or on my person. I live in a State that respects my rights, so in return, if someone request I don't carry in or on their property, I respect their wishes.

Interesting, I knew CA was strict, but didn't know to what extent. What you mentioned is pretty much the same as Ontario.

 

The laws in CA are that the county sheriff (possibly also city PD in some places) can issue a CCW permit to anyone who passes certain background requirements (pretty much all overlap with the background check required to buy a gun in the state anyway) and who has a "need" for the permit.

In L.A. County, there's virtually nothing (including having an active restraining order against someone with a history of violence from what I've heard) that the local authorities will accept as a valid "need"; friends/family/political donors for higher level county/state authorities can get a permit, as well as anyone working security for one of the many celebs in the area who are outspoken against the existence of the "right to bear arms" in the US and maybe some licensed PIs, PMCs, or other security professionals. In several adjacent counties, the local authorities will give CCW permits to almost anyone who meets the background requirements, and will accept "self defense" as a legitimate need; since the permits are good statewide this means that a lot of people with valid permits can still be carrying concealed guns in L.A. County, but only if they have an address outside of the County.

I just lock my truck. No separate lock box or anything. I keep a CC on me, a spare in the glove-box, one in the center console, one under each front seat, and two in the back just in case.

 

I'm in Kentucky where gun ownership is almost required. We can conceal carry without a permit in state and the state permit is excepted in 35 states. It's always been legal to have a gun in you glove box or console of your vehicle which is considered an extention of your home. It's even illegal for an employer to forbid you to have a gun in the car while parked on your employers private property. You can also open carry.

never again for me. i keep my carry on me no matter what.

 

i follow the laws meaning no federal building schools hospitals pot shop but other than that i carry where ever i go and its concealed . One more place i dont carry is on to military base where I work doing construction or i would get in big trouble dont need that

 

I don't worry about it. Only the CC is "technically" mine. Thinking of adding one in each door panel cup holder for safety reasons.

For starters, maybe the part where you (if possible) can own a gun but cannot simply go into your backyard to shoot it. You have to go to a “licensed gun range”.

 

Well this explains why Cali is SO SAFE. Just like over here in New Germany.. I mean, Jersey.

 

Luckily only some parts of the communist state of Maryland are like that. Mostly you just need to be 150 yards from any structure, but local jurisdictions vary.

 

As an American, gun violence terrifies me, and it terrorizes our country. Its a quandary, because the majority of gun owners are responsible, but there is a very high level of inherent danger in our society due to the design of the 2nd amendment. The potential side effects probably werent considered at the time or it was determined it simply wasnt in the scope and it would be up to the states to further define. But of the many unanticipated side effects, domestic violence and domestic terrorism are what concerns me the most. I don't think we should live in a society where we feel its necessary to be armed to ensure our own security. To me thats absurd. But at the same time, I still advocate for the recreational use of guns, and of owning and carrying a gun as a security measure. Again, its a quandary, or I suppose a calculated risk.

 

I would rather live in a dangerous free society than a safe police state. There are no mass shootings in North Korea.

I really couldn't disagree with you more. What inherent danger are you considering? The 2nd amendment is what preserves the rest of our rights.

Again, I strongly disagree. I think many things were considered. "Shall not be infringed" is pretty specific. And the Constitution being the law of the land, no state should have the power to legislate around it. Even most state constitutions have language not only preserving the right to bear arms, but deferring to the U.S. Constitution as primary should there be confusion.

If that is your main concern, you need to step away from the news and check the statistics. Despite the news taking every opportunity to drive this narrative, the data doesn't prove this out.

Who better to secure your safety than yourself? If you disagree, you are hoping for a utopian fantasy that is unlikely.

I would encourage you to follow Colion Noir. He's obviously pro 2A, but he gives a lot of good data and prospective. If nothing else, it might help you feel less anxious about "domestic terrorism" at least as it relates to firearms.

The Tuffy has terrible reviews. Seems like with any amount of effort a pry bar can pop it open. But that would require them to find it first, and take the time.

The center console option just seems too small and I already use that for other stuff.

 

@jowybyo I believe it to be a calculated risk, where it was decided that the value of the amendment outweighed any adverse consequences. We can agree to disagree on specifics. The dangers of blindly trusting every citizen to uphold everyone elses right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness is naive. Innocent people get killed every day, and they have those rights taken away from them. I understand the need in the initial context of the amendment, as well as the need for preserving it today, but we shouldnt ignore the problems that it creates, and we should look for solutions.

But I digress, I just wanted to offer a response to a fellow Canadian, and did not intend to debate or derail the thread lol
