How do you lock your pistol up in your truck?

Not trying to pour more fuel on this thread jack, but lack of firearms, or stricter gun laws have never been proven to lower violence.
It may lower gun violence, which is common sense, but it does not lower violence. It certainly doesn't eliminate even just gun violence, just narrows the micro statistic even further.
People are violent. And will be. Take the gun, they use a knife, take a knife, they'll use a blunt object, or acid, or machetes, or a uhaul van full of fertilizer.. or shit just the van.
Stricter gun laws have actually made violence RISE in those same areas, but people applaud the theatrics of someone touting that there is now lower gun violence.
More innocent people die where firearms are restricted, at least in America.
In a land of over 400 MILLION firearms, we can't afford to wish them away. They are here. They are and always will be a part of our society, and the only way to stop a bad one is with a good one.
Jerry's final thought: the statistically proven safest demographic of people in this country, even safer and break fewer laws than even law enforcement, is the concealed carry permit holders. They go out of their way to preserve the right to their firearms that is very easily stripped away for minor infractions.

 

A good rule for me is to have it double locked, i.e. front door and gun safe, in any situation where I'm not physically near it. Most operations are smash and grabs for vehicles unless they have a reason to hang around, i.e. pro gun stickers. Show your support, but know the risk. If somebody takes the risk to break into your home they will most likely take time to find valuable things unless it's somebody who is familiar with your belongings and already know where to find high valuable items.

Not sure what kind of life the people lead who suggest always keeping it on you, but if you want to go to a concert, ball game, federal building, yadayadaya... be prepared to leave your gun at home if you don’t want to leave it in your truck.

 

NRA doesn't give a shit about gun owners, they care about making sure the pockets of gun manufacturers stay nice and fat.

Plenty of other organizations that actually care about the little guy

I wouldn’t lock mine in my truck. It really sucks that I can’t take mine to/from work since I work on a government site and we can’t have weapons on the premises. So when I do carry, I don’t need to leave in my truck.

 

Of course, anything but a utopia is a compromise. I think everyone would prefer that there weren't criminals with guns or, worse yet, bad people with the power of the government and military behind them. But that's not reality. Until criminals give up there weapons and people with ill intentions stop existing then the 2A will continue to be our best method for securing freedom. We are watching the results of bad people with military power happen in Myanmar now.

I think your stance that the men that constructed the Constitution and framework of America were naive is, to be polite, kinda crazy. They were well studied in history, governmental systems and were well aware of what had and hadn't worked in countries all over the world. Fundamentally they were individualist, believing that we were endowed with the right and duty to protect our freedoms. If you aren't to be trusted in protecting your own freedom, whom shall be trusted to protect it?

Innocent people die everyday for all manner of reasons. It's tragic, but your general position ignores the 1 million - 2.5 million (depends on the study) lives that are saved by guns in the US every year. We don't need to ignore the few tragedies to make a solid case that guns do far more good than harm. We also don't need to ban guns to find solutions to mass shootings. For context, hands and feet are responsible for ~2x more murders in the US than all rifles (not just AR-15's and other 'assault weapons'). Knives are responsible for about 5x as many homicides. And handguns about 20x. So if we are to talk about saving lives, it's not obvious that banning AR's is the place to start. I only mention this because that's the hot topic right now and so how divorced the narrative is from reality. And that's without mentioning that roughly 50/year die from 'mass shootings' (some that could be prevented by good people with guns if legislators hadn't made it illegal to carry in certain places), while thousands of other murders are committed mostly fueled by gang crime and the drug trade.

Debates are good. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing or seeing things differently. Your position is a popular one, so I'm not here to delegitimize it. With each conversation I think everyone moves to being more moderate in their views, which is a good thing.

Well, you did though. We hold our constitution very near and dear. You attacked the premise of the 2nd with your fears of so called side effects. Don't get it twisted, no matter how foolish or crazy we may come off, we will defend our constitution. Even as our government and the biased MSM turn people against it and the protections it intended.

I would have to disagree with you there, the NRA is not what it used to be. There are better far better organizations to back these days. Check out FPC (Firearms Policy Coalition), and FRAC (Firearms Regulatory Accountability Coalition) to name a couple.
