I'm going to buy my first oil filter and jug of oil off of Amazon. They have Valvoline 5/30 synthetic blend for $10 off at $17.99. Is Valvoline good, and are synthetic blends good for old 1996 engines (200 K miles)?

Oil filters: I heard K&N are good for racing because of high-flow, but you sacrifice filtration. So are K&N worth the high price if they don't filter as well as other brands?

What oil filter do you use (available off Amazon) that is good and worth the higher price? And can you tell me the model number?

I'm sure these questions have been asked 1,000 times, but I can't find 'em.

I would go with OE Toyota filter and pretty much all oils nowdays are synthetic blends so no problems there. I run Valvoline full synthetic in my 14 and Valvoline ATV in all my 4 wheelers, never had any issues.

Stick with the same type oil that has been running in the truck. If Dino stick with Dino. If synthetic stay with synthetic. I would not change types of oil on a truck with 200,000 miles. Sometimes switching type of oil on a high mileage vehicle can cause problems. The only change I would consider is going to a high mileage oil but as long as you are not burning oil stick with what ever it’s been using.
Don’t worry about brands of oil. There is little difference among the major brands. Switching brands will not make your truck run better or longer. Just be sure to use the correct viscosity as per the owners manual.
For oil filters you can’t go wrong with using OEM Toyota filters.
The most important thing is to change oil at owners manual recommended intervals, use the correct viscosity and use a good filter like a OEM Toyota filter. Forget the K&N filters, not worth the $$ and no advantage to using them.
    Welcome to TW!
