Okay what color is the crap shooting out the tail pipe. Black is too rich, blue is oil and white is typically coolant.

Feeling guilty I never concluded this issue and I hate that. Sorry it took so long. This is how the truck turned out. Didn't solve the burning of oil although it lessened to about a quart between changes after changing ignition paks and basic tuning. That pretty much solved all issues with soot(oil I thought) shooting out the tail pipe. I kept this truck on planned non op and used it sparingly. The goal then became to smog in California. Wasn't going to be easy with all that unburned fuel, soot, oil or whatever that had been coating the substrate on the CATS over at least 25k. . I ended up with the dreaded Catalyst code, I can't remember the #. I tried everything under the sun to get my CAT to work....Everything! air/fuel sensors lacquer thinner I think it was. Acetone. Oven cleaner, Pressure washer. Soaking, Hot, Different soapy, degreaser, commercial products, and nothing worked. Over $1500 for a new one. Had to be Calif. or New York specific and it's illegal for a dismantler to sell a CAT in Calif. I was not deterred. Long story of several failed attempts, eventually leading to me to ask for an exhaust pipe etc etc..... never mentioning Catalytic Converter rather describing the "pipe" downstream of the manifold. I was able to get a used one from a dismantler $600. Tricky too because if it didn't work sure I could return it but I had to give up my original as a $200 core that they would not hold onto. It was a struggle, fortunately it worked and passed smog. I sold the 2005 2.7 base access cab about a year ago running good for $3200. 278k and all is well. Sporting a 1st Gen Tundra now. Which is very near the size of a Newer Tacoma BTW so There you go. IGNITION PACKS

so is it oil or soot

soot could be a direct product of ‘ blow by ‘ + engine running very rich
