So I'm going to give our roav cams one last shot before I buy new ones. I know it might be a horrible gamble but I was recommended the plug n play hard wire kit to help fix or issues. We currently run both cams off of a heavy duty usb external battery charger. I'm told this might be the reason for malfunction because of the dashcam options we want to use needs to be hard wired to the odbII or fuse box to know when your vehicle is parked or moving etc. An external battery just confuses it.

I'm 50/50 on this but the lady and I both agree, gambling on a couple of these $15 roav hardwire kits is worth a shot before dropping $500 on a couple of new cameras and possibly being stuck in the same situation.

(Plug n play: Camera to USB power wire to hardwired kit to ODBII)

    This is what we got:

I'll update with my review after a couple days of use

Blueskysea B4K with hardwire kit. So far working great and image quality seems good. Used to have a Viofo A119 in another vehicle and the B4K so far is better in every way possible. Has option to add 2nd camera later on if you want for rearview but I have a camper shell so it's not a huge priority for me yet.

Thinkware just launched the F200 PRO model.
It seems to have FHD video quality for both front and rear.
Also has an Ambarella CPU which is usually used in top-tier action cams.
So you don't have to worry about dash cam freezing or failing to record.

I picked up this one after the cmos sensor failed in my blackvue. I’m pretty happy with it so far. It doesn’t have tons of features but it’s really good performance and a great price. Time will tell how long it lasts but so far so good.

Looks pretty decent. What do they mean by one channel vs two channel though? I'm not too up on the tech stuff

Channels is just referring to the number of cameras. 1ch = front, 2ch means front + rear

Here are some screen grabs from the VIOFO A129 pro in case anyone is wondering, 4k30fps and any quality settings maxed (I don't remember the specific settings anymore).

Is the camera able to make out the license plates at night? I can't see the plate numbers.

It depends, sometimes yes. It ultimately depends on the conditions. No camera will be able to pick out a license plate with your headlights directly shining on them. There is just too much glare and reflection going on. But if there is enough indirect light on the license plate and the camera has a good angle then you can read them pretty well. From what I’ve seen and coming from a much more expensive blackvue camera, this one is right up there with night quality as the high dollar cameras.

Yes glare and reflection from headlights definitely make it hard for dash cams to pick up license plates.
Automatic light exposure will help control the light exposure from headlights.
Even better if you have high-dynamic-range (HDR).
It will record a long shutter frame and short shutter frame video at the same time to optimize image quality.

Also take note high-end dash cams like Thinkware that have top class sensors - Sony Starvis will fair way better in night conditions.
