Hey everybody, like the title says my cruise control won't stay set. It's hard to get it to set in the first place is the main problem. It takes several tries and sometimes I luck up and it will stay set. Any ideas on what would cause this before I have to take it to the dealer??

Check your brake and clutch (if equipped) switches for proper operation, you can try holding up the pedal(s) with your foot and see if it works correctly.

I had the same issue. I replaced my clock spring and it works fine again.

Brake or clutch switch could do it, but the Most Likely culprit would be a the spiral cable as that is a known issue.

LED bulbs in the brake lights or a bad taillight ground can do this too.

What is this spiral cable that you speak of and where is it? Thanks!

Yikes!! I hope that isn't the problem but Thank You for sharing! I gotta take to the dealer to have my brakes checked so I might as well have them check that too. First though, I will check the brake switch and hopefully that's the problem. Thanks Guys!!!

Thanks. I have an "appointment" with the local dealer on Tuesday but hopefully it's just the brake switch that I can check myself first. Will report back after I get it figured out.

UPDATE: took my Taco to the dealer for a checkup on the cruise control and the brakes and they could not find anything wrong with anything. Apparently I am not going through the right process to set the cruise and just need more practice at it. The brakes were said to be fine, still in the "yellow range" whatever that means. They did perform the recall about tire pressure and put a sticker on the door jamb to prove it and said that was the only recall on it. I even ask them what that weird noise was when I turn off the key and they said that was normal, something to do with air injection pump and told me it was even louder on the newer models (3rd gens). I left feeling somewhat better about the experience especially since they didn't charge me anything! Sooo I bought a Yota hat from them! I checked my email later that day and they had sent me an offer to buy my truck but it aint for sale! The end!
